| Pavolink said: Wow, didn't expect people to be that mad. I'm not the one responsible for this sales. Making or not the thread won't change the facts posted on the OP. Deal with it. Wii U and it's software strategy has failed, and these threads could help to discuss what else should Nintendo need to do now or in the next generation, not just complain about the thread. Metroid or not, Retros DK game was a bad decision and that won't influence at the quality of the game. But we are talking about it from another point of view. |
Yes, but not making the thread (or not making it in such an overtly negative way) is more likely to foster constructive criticism. This thread just becomes a magnet for bitching, which leads to flames.
Tone is important, and we have plenty of threads that do discuss more solution-oriented approaches rather than "let's all look at the trainwreck in motion."

Even if you invested tens of millions in that product and only got back $6.8m for the 200k sales so far ? |
This is basically impossible to know because we don't even have a reference for how much Nintendo games cost to make, for all we know it could have been $10 million to make Tropical Freeze or it could have been $60 million (I'm more inclined to believe the number is closer to the former).

Maybe. But I don't see anything worng with the thread. It's a real problem and I was just exposing what I believe it was the cause.

Roma's comment above mine gives a bit of a hint as to why people are losing patience with you specifically in this matter.
Yes, it's a discussion that probably needs to be had, but not on these terms.

| Mr Khan said: I've burned many bridges over the EA debate. Suffice it to say there's nothing left to say on that matter that isn't going to lead to personal attacks in the end. ZombiU failed to profit (kind of feel that's Ubi's fault there. The game didn't have boffo production values and sold, what, 600k by now? What's it take?). Splinter Cell tanked hard.(Everywhere, and was gimped on Wii U) Call of Duty did nothing special.(Expected, gimped). Assassin's Creed did nothing special. (Copy last response)FIFA bombed.(By being a literal roster-update of the prior FIFA year. EA self-sabotage strikes). Batman did nothing special. (weasel words here. What is "special", what is "sufficient"? Did it make money for Warner Bros? Was it a worthwhile investment? City must have been, since Origins was made). Deus Ex bombed. (By being a remake few people asked for and being $20 more expensive) Need for Speed bombed.(The EA argument that i'm not going to touch again). Tekken bombed. (This is the only really valid one). Mass Effect bombed. (EA, do NOT try to make an argument here) Sonic Lost World bombed. (Not really. Twin-platform sales are getting to a healthy place. Too soon to call). Ninja Gaiden bombed. (What's the standard, here? How much did Razor's Edge, not actual NG3, do on PS3/360?) Walking Dead bombed. (Everywhere) Scribblenauts bombed. (Doubtful, WB kept working at it) Rabbids bombed. (Game was sent out to die) Your Shape bombed. (Ditto) Madden bombed. (EA) |
It doesnt matter whos fault it is that a game does well, all that matters is how well the game does. The bottom line is it didnt profit.
Splinter Cell sold over 700k on PS3 and almost 800k on 360, opposed to 50k on Wii U. It sold over 250k Week 1 on 360 and 180k Week 1 on PS3. It sold 18k Week 1 on Wii U. It didnt tank hard everywhere.
Those CoD sales werent expected and to simply say "expected" is extremely silly. In 10 Weeks, Blops 2 only managed 150,000 units. In 10 Week, Ghosts only managed 122k. This is terrible for Call of Duty when even the "gimped", as you say, Vita title managed 900k (590k in 10W) and outsold both WiiU titles combined.
AC wasnt expected to tank like it did. AC3 did 106k after 10 Weeks and AC4 did 117k after 10 Weeks. Both did 240k and 150k lifetime so far. Ill use the Vita as an example here again. AC3:L on Vita did over 500k after 10 Weeks, over 900k lifetime.
FIFA being a roster update could be used over and over again for each FIFA since 12. That said, there was no FIFA 12 on Wii U. Furthermore, the Wii releases were always only roster updates and considerably outperformed FIFA 13 Wii U. FIFA 13 Wii U sold 142k lifetime, while FIFA 14 Wii sold over 200,000 units in 10 Weeks alone. The game tanked. Thats all to be said.
Batman did nothing special. By this I mean it didnt sell very well. 200k for an established, popular franchise isnt very good. That said, this was a later port so it gets a bit of leeway and a "nothing special" instead of a "tank". Origins is looking to outperform it.
Deus Ex may not have been asked for but it was there. It was picking up the slack as you put it. Even then 40,000 units lifetime is abysmal.
Need for Speed bombed. Thats all that needs to be said.
Tekken isnt the only valid one out of the bunch at all.
Mass Effect bombed. Thats all that needs to be said.
Sonic Lost World on Wii U doesnt get to have Sonic Lost World on 3DS sell for it Khan. While it may be a tad too early to call a bomb, its not had the best of openings.
All Ninja Gaiden 3 data is down simply as NG3, for every platform including Wii U. The point Im going to make though is that NG3 on Wii U sold ~50k lifetime. NG3 on PS3 sold 65k in a Week. NG3 360 sold 50k in 2 Weeks. They are at 360k and 210k lifetime, respectively.
Walking Dead sold 50k units on Wii U. It did 18k in 10 Weeks. Its a bomb. It sold over 300k on PS3 and over 400k on 360, those may be bomb numbers... But the game still bombed. It doesnt matter how it did on other platforms.
Scribblenauts Id actually agree with after going over the data again. Respectable Wii U numbers for the game considering its been primarily a handheld franchise.
Rabbids bombed. Thats all that needs to be said.
Your Shape bombed. But this isnt all that needs to be said though. It wasnt sent out to die at all. The Wii version sold over 2 Million. The 360 versions both sold over a Million. This was a consistant Million selling franchise that Ubisoft took seriously Khan, yet the Wii U game they did has sold less than 50,000 units lifetime.
Madden bombed, thats all that needed to be said.
Im gonna add on one more bomb - Injustice: Gods Among Us. 80,000 lifetime on Wii U. 240k Week 1 on PS3. 290k Week 1 on 360. 210k lifetime on PS4 (late port)
The sheer fact that you had an excuse at the ready for each 3rd party bomb I put forward was incredible.

Its number 2 in global software sales behind a game that is given away for free, hardly a bomb. Have you turned your attention to Donkey Kong because 3D World served you a nice helping of crow.

Not "excuses," hardly. Most were quite rational justifications for shit that the third parties did ahead of time to largely make sure that nobody had any good reason to pick up the Wii U version. This point has never been addressed (or has been addressed and people keep refusing to acknowledge it, or come up with their own, yet more tortuous counter-excuses). Your Shape i'll give you because i had never really heard of it. The others i mostly have heard of, and so understand the conditions surrounding their release, including the BS conditions 3rd parties tacked on.
The EA games should NOT be a part of this conversation, period, lest we all say things that we're going to regret in the name of defending the Worst Company in America.
