Forums - Microsoft - Xbox and EA Deal - Worth it? Whats next?

I think some are missing the point that TitanFall wouldn't be what it is becoming if it wasn't an exclusive. I have no idea how much money Microsoft Added, but they helped the game develop on the consoles. It might have been a PC exclusive or other things. And it might have been a long time before it came out.

Garden Warfare actually looks pretty fun. I was watching it on Twitch last night and it's really smooth too.

Buying all those launch copies of Fifa might have been part of the deal. Both companies seem to be happy working together. As much as some people like to hate on Microsoft, they are unrivaled at working with just about everybody. (Cept maybe by the people that make zippers.)

Thats all bull and you know it. I am sure you've been gaming for quite a while so this stuff shouldn't go over your head. The game is being published by EA not Microsoft. Microsoft money added is solely for exclusivity. Respawn didnt have a final say in anything and the cloud build up was all noise. This is what happens when people fall for PR and Microsoft is ace at it.

Titanfall would indeed have been what it currently is. Look at the hype for the multiplat Destiny. Look at the hype generated for Watch_Dogs. Both new IPs, both hyped up to shit.

This is EAs second hit against Call of Duty. The left hook is Battlefield, the right hook is Titanfall. Theyre trying hard to get chunks of that market away from Activision, and there is no doubt at all that if this was multiplat it would have been just as big (if not bigger).

The deal has its pros and cons

Strengths
-Having an exclusives deal lets Microsoft have its cake and eat it to. In other words it gets exclusives but doesn't have to dig down and spend to just acquire a studio. If Microsoft is thinking about exiting the gaming industry, then you would probably see more of these kinds of deals as opposed to an acquisition of studios.

-They get developers to work more effectively, bc they cci are just having to know one platform

Weaknesses

-It would probably make sense to repeat the agreement for a set number of years, but if the agreement lasts longer than say 3 years or so, then EA will face the risk of being stuck into an agreement with a failing platform. So the greater the length of time the agreement lasts, the more risk EA faces. So, EA will make Microsoft pay well for the increase in risk. If this lasts 4-5 years, then microsoft will be spending way more than they should, way more than the exclusives will be worth

-

The implications of my comment suggest that EA will go multiplat, or that msft will have renegotiate, and bad pay EA more for the privelage of exclusive games, in the next 3-5 years.

I think the MS partnership was a calculated risk taken by EA. They assumed like most others that MS would be dominating in the big regions..US, Uk etc. But this has kinda backfired.

At the moment i see MS benefiting from the deal and EA's only benefit is the money MS paid.

If titanfall was on both platforms it would be hailed as the COD Killer imo. We would be seeing massive advertising from EA, Sony and MS. As it stands now i don't think EA is quite fully behind the title for whatever reason.

Also considering how low X1 sales is in Europe the Fifa deal hasnt worked for MS.

So i guess EA benefited here as Fifa sales on PS platforms haven't been negatively affected and they got money from MS...

Denying the obvious is equally boring.

Good thing I'm not denying anything here. Just wanted a quote from EA saying they expected the Xbox One to sell more.

An interview answer about projections for the "Xbox" and "Playstation" (which includes last gen and current gen consoles) is not that. Especially when, you know, they don't even actually say they expected the Xbox One to sell more in said quote LOL. But some people need to reach.

Again, they could have estimated this exact sales breakdown to happen and still done the deal based on whatever financial incentives MS provided. Which we have no idea about.

Your not that dumb, at least I hope not.

I think the FIFA partnership will hinge on how FIFA 15 eventually does on Xbox One. If we see some great retail sales for 15 on the Xbox One then sure, they could call it a success as it built the userbase.

If its down on 14, Im not sure they could say it was a success.

Great partnership as Titanfall is the most talked about game this gen.

That is some seriously messed up reasoning you have there.

Why on earth would EA predict that X1 sells much less than PS4 and still go with a partnership with MS?

Its quite clear that the quote ehomaz posted indicates that EA thought X1 would be have a sales adavantage and thats why they went with them. How can you not see that?

They expected the sales advantage from last gen to carry over. Exactly. Wrong thinking from EA there. They lost 160 million users between the 360 and PS3 and 9 to 10 million between the Xbox one and PS4.
