Worth it for EA until MS stops paying. Then EA may have some ground to repair on the Playstation side of things. Worth it for MS? Not sure. I would say no and that those resources could be better used but I'm not a business man.

I'm sure the deal is worth it for EA because Titanfall is a new IP so it will offset their cost even if it's not successful, though I don't think sales would have suffered even if it was on the PS3/4 because people will buy it regardless IMO. The scary part is think about what would have been if they had an "unprecedented partnership" with Nintendo? LOL!

I see people constantly talking about how EA expected the Xbone to outsell PS4.. when did they say that? They can have internal projections that make the Xbone deals viable that don't have to entail Xbone selling more. Price difference and launch territories pretty much ruled out the Xbone selling more. |
Directly from EA month...
They made the deal because they thought Xbone will sell more.
I think this deal between Microsoft and EA was made to push the Xbox One 's DRM. EA honestly thought they could single-handedly determine the next console winner and tada! Wait, what do you mean the PS4 is in the lead?! Nooooooo! Our beautiful DRMmachine! We cancelled online passes for this?! Why?!
Too bad the whole DRM thing didn't work out EA.

What EA doesnt sell on PS4/PS3 will likely be offset by whatever MSFT paid, or at least some of it. And if it turns out successful they can just as easily make TF2 for Sony as well knowing it will be a success. Again, new ip that is automatically getting paid for MSFT is a perk.
And yeah MSFT is advertising. Been all over the front page of XBL, them touting it constantly, in their Xbox One Launch trailer "invititation", a TitanFall launch party in texas, TitanFall controller, Xbox One TitanFall Bundle (Where they likely paid for that as well), and im sure there is more coming.
We dont know the extent of the contract that MSFT and EA made but again, EA wouldnt have agreed to it if they didnt see it as worth it. Now we have to wait and see if it was worth it for MSFT or not.
BTW EA said that before NPD January results... they are not confortable anymore.
| Carl2291 said: Soooooo with how things have currently gone with Xbox One and EA, has this partnership been worth it for both companies so far? Lets take a look at what we can currently "get" from the deal. Battlefield 4 - Timed exclusive DLC Thats quite a lot of stuff to say the Xbox One only launched in November. Its quite clear that the partnership is strong, for whatever reason. What do people think we will see in the future? Do you think it was worth it for EA and/or Microsoft (will be better to ask that after TF)? I can see some Madden stuff probably happening. Dragon Age Inquisition content is probable, as is Mass Effect 4 content Id say. How about the new Need for Speed by Criterion this Year having Xbox One exclusive content? |
Well, hopefully the relationship doesnt impact the bioware games. I care about bioware games far more than all other games combined and right now i plan on getting them on the ps4... But if there is exclusive content on the x1 I will probably have to accellerate my plans on getting the x1...

" think you should assume that we made that decision when it was back a few years ago when we decided to go exclusive,"
"We had some forecast at that time from where we thought both Xbox and PlayStation would be and that's what we based our decision on. I think we're still feeling very comfortable with that,"
|
I assume by "EA month" you mean "EA mouth" and i also assume then thay you didnt read the article because it says nothing from EA about Xbone dominating. Thats just the website putting their own spin and interpretation on it.
i mean, if their forecast called for the Xbone to "dominate", why would they, as you just quoted them saying, feel very good about it?
So no then, EA themselves never said that. Thanks for confirming for me.
EA said that expected Xbone to sell more and people can't read that lol

You sound pretty sure of yourself when none of us know the real story.
"Microsoft knew who to pay and almost screwed over gamers to do it"
actually it's
Microsoft knew who to pay and benefitted Xbox gamers to do it.
