The way Afghanistan was progressing before war kicked off, it would of been like a western country. This would've been by choice. No one forced them to do that. All these wars changed things though and now the fundamentalists are holding it all back. I'm not saying they should be like us, but alot of stuff like that is acceptable here was happening there. 'Development' not only means improving economy but the change in society to make it better for themselves. I don't know what is colonialist about that. But obviously, that is not Afghanistan anymore. The Afghanistan we see now has gone backwards and faces many problems that the west can't deal with for them. They need to want to improve their society away from the volatile and dangerous Taliban, which is what seems to cause alot of the ongoing issues. It's like an endless cycle now. |
Except, without the west, Afgthanistan would only move towards the Taliban.
Also, it's not like the opposite of the Taliban is particularly non-violent and dangerous... as the opposite is more or less Drug Warlords. Karzai's brother is a drug warlord. (Or was, he might have died?)
The only real difference is that the Drug Lords work mostly on a profit motive and can be steered away from violence.
