So if a price drop brings more sales, Xbox will be just fine?

Kind off puts them in line with the "honesty" of every other company, wouldn´t you agree? |
Yes I would agree.
Probably 95% anyway.
This thread was about Microsoft's statements though.
Wii FC: 6440 8298 7583 0720 XBOX GT: WICK1978 PSN: its_the_wick 3DS: 1676-3747-7846 Nintendo Network: its-the-wick

I hope Xbox does do just fine. Sony needs some kind of competition

I don't think a system selling well would have had a price cut four months after launch.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
| gooch_destroyer said: so everyone has been jumping around the “Xbox One failure in sales” bandwagon after Microsoft announced that its next-gen console would be receiving a nice price-trim in the United Kingdom. |
Pretty sure that bandwagon was well-known before the UK announcement.
Nobody needs this announcement to know the XBone isn't copeting well with PS4.
| gooch_destroyer said: Microsoft officials defended the company’s decision to lower the console’s price in the UK, and eliminated the rumors that pointed towards desperation as being the primary factor behind the drop in price. In an exclusive interview with Metro, Microsoft’s UK marketing director Harvey Eagle clarified some things. “No, I don’t think so. For us this is about giving UK gamers the best value that we can. We think that that starts with the announcement of this new price point, at 399. It continues with the inclusion of the hottest game of this new generation, in Titanfall, which is now included in the box at no additional cost.” stated Mr. Eagle, a statement which rings true. The addition of Titanfall to the bundle is definitely a good marketing strategy. Harvey Eagle wasn’t shy to acknowledge the stiff competition either, stating that “And I would also say that this has been our most successful Xbox launch ever in the UK. I think that we can already see that both platforms are commercially successful, that’s great for the industry, but we’re only a few months into a generation that is going to last for many years to come.” |
Uh... Sounds like a bunch of marketing speak denial. He denies this is about desperation vs. PS4, yet plays up marketing benefits. NO FUCKING SHIT! If you are desperate about competitive marketshare, you use some new marketing tactics. That isn't a distinct motivation. If this was not motivated by competitive marketshare concerns, but purely "giving UK gamers the best value we can", they could "give" previous XBone customers a rebate and free Titanfall. They could "give" those benefits to ALL existing XBone customers globally, if that is their true motivation.
In case it's not obvious, UK was probably MS' best hope for this gen outside of the US, yet they aren't doing so hot even there, so they are trying to sweeten the offer in a market that should be the most receptive to XBone of any market, i.e. will make the most of their marketing trick. More MS bullshit. If they want people to pity them, they should try harder to not lie all the time.
| ironmanDX said: So, on the other hand, Sony making the PS4 cheaper and taking a loss was marketing genius? |
Not force bundling an expensive motion control accessory that gamers don't want is what makes PS4 cheaper, nothing to do with taking a loss.
That Sony's design approach was able to pack more power for the same price of the base console is a separate issue.
I expected this all along. MS knew that at launch at the Holiday season would mean sell out. They did sell out. Now they adjust. Selling the consoles for a loss at launch is just a poor decision. Take the money and reapply toward the business. I made this prediction when MS announced the price back at E3. No need to be at $400 at launch. Wait a few months and then adjust price to keep selling at the pace they are comfortable with.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I can't deny your logic.

MS is really suffering for that then. People are switching to Playstation all the time and they are not going to go back when MS lowers the price
