Pretty sure that bandwagon was well-known before the UK announcement.
Nobody needs this announcement to know the XBone isn't copeting well with PS4.

In an exclusive interview with Metro, Microsoft’s UK marketing director Harvey Eagle clarified some things. “No, I don’t think so. For us this is about giving UK gamers the best value that we can. We think that that starts with the announcement of this new price point, at 399. It continues with the inclusion of the hottest game of this new generation, in Titanfall, which is now included in the box at no additional cost.” stated Mr. Eagle, a statement which rings true. The addition of Titanfall to the bundle is definitely a good marketing strategy. Harvey Eagle wasn’t shy to acknowledge the stiff competition either, stating that “And I would also say that this has been our most successful Xbox launch ever in the UK. I think that we can already see that both platforms are commercially successful, that’s great for the industry, but we’re only a few months into a generation that is going to last for many years to come.” |
Uh... Sounds like a bunch of marketing speak denial. He denies this is about desperation vs. PS4, yet plays up marketing benefits. NO FUCKING SHIT! If you are desperate about competitive marketshare, you use some new marketing tactics. That isn't a distinct motivation. If this was not motivated by competitive marketshare concerns, but purely "giving UK gamers the best value we can", they could "give" previous XBone customers a rebate and free Titanfall. They could "give" those benefits to ALL existing XBone customers globally, if that is their true motivation.
In case it's not obvious, UK was probably MS' best hope for this gen outside of the US, yet they aren't doing so hot even there, so they are trying to sweeten the offer in a market that should be the most receptive to XBone of any market, i.e. will make the most of their marketing trick. More MS bullshit. If they want people to pity them, they should try harder to not lie all the time.
