Wii u bad news is talked about all day on here but ps4 bad news is swepted under the rug

It isn't bad news though.

No kidding. A two-day total of 320,000 in a country that is more about mobile gaming today and that only bought 80,000 of the PS3 on its Day 1 launch is exciting. It's just not mindblowing like the PS2 was in Japan when it launched from what I remember. We are also hearing that the PS4 is selling out even through its second shipment with a third coming on the 26th I think. So it's looking like another story of demand being greater than supply even if not as crazy as Western demand.

It's interesting to note here that the Wii U sold 308k or so in it's opening 2 days in Japan (and it had the joy of Christmas competition). Ps4 had nothing else new and exciting released to compete with and no amazing deals for other devices to compete with and still sold just a little better than the Wii U did in it's opening 2 days. I'm seriously starting to wonder if Japan really IS turning into a smartphone/handheld only country...

You are missing 3 big points here.

1. The WiiU didn't have a de facto competition. It was the very first 8th gen console and had all the hype with it from E3.

2. Nintendo has a big kids demographic. Just guess which time around they all get presents.

3. People buy A LOT more around christmas time than in late february.

In light of that the PS4 is already much more popular than the WiiU

You realize playstation bumps come around 52 and 1 week right?

Anyway using holidays as excuse on perfromance is not vaid because hoildays usually boost sales on second year of consoles. That's when discounts at the hoildays began and are more focused on children. Your own point defeated the second point because most children don't buy playstation on holidays but on New Years. Either way only the hardcore buy at launch. Expect it to drop to vita second year since it already is beating on launch sales.

PS4 is a console in a handheld country just accept it and move on.

"Excuse me sir, I see you have a weapon. Why don't you put it down and let's settle this like gentlemen"  ~ max

The 2nd year is just as important, look at the PS2 games on its second year:

That would be hard for the PS4 to match, but FFXV, KHIII, GT7, MGSV:PP (or complete edition, i.e. GZ+PP), TLG, DQVIIIHD remake, Uncharted 4 would probably match or exceed it. Kawano recently said Sony needs to work hard to make the PS4 sell as much as the PS2 and I agree. It's doable, but it will require a lot of hard work and a lot of deals, exclusive or otherwise, with 3rd parties.

On 2015 is when We'll see the real nextgen games based on the hardware instead of port of oldgens or downgrades from PC...

EDITED.

That is if they know business and how video game company's make their money, which is off software not the hardware. Hardware will always lose the company money for the first 2-3 years its released. Now with that being said, Go onto the most software sold all time and guess who has all ten spots, thats right Nintendo.

Okay, so let's take a look at software sales: in a few weeks the PS3 software sales will surpass the DS software sales... leading to 3 playstation systems in the top 5.

The Wii is still at position 3, but the software gap to 360 and PS3 is closing fast. At the end of this year, 360 software sales will have surpassed Wii software sales... in the last 10 weeks the gap between them shrunk from 63.2 to 37 millions.

And next year, PS3 software sales could also surpass Wii software sales... in the last 10 weeks the gap between them shrunk from 132 to 103.5 millions.

Counting in digital sales, both 360 and PS3 software sales probably already surpassed Wii software sales. Sony is really pushing digital sales with great bargains every month, Microsoft's digital promotions like the "XBL Ultimate Game Sale" are less frequent and Nintendo's ambitions to sell Wii games digitally are... nonexistant.

Kids don't buy. Kids get stuff from their parents and they buy in or before the holidays. That's why there wasn't a boost this launch but will be next holiday because the kids missed the holiday window to get something expensive.

I believe the WiiU would've sold significantly less in the launch month if it launched late february. That's why I don't think the numbers are comparable. The fact that the PS4 still sold more though says a lot.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I expected 300-400k, this this is exactly what I expected.

When XB1 releases here it will probably only get about 100k.

Xbox one won't get anywhere near 100k in japan.

You don't think? I think there is a small sub group who want one. It won't sell well after, but week 1 it should get a tiny boost.
