And it doesn't mean its any good because you like it.

It means its good because its succeeding. If it was bad the Indie craze would have died out long ago.

Like I said - Unique, different experiences to what you find out in retail stores. The consumer clearly wants these experiences. It doesnt matter if they have gimmicky gameplay features or a different art style. Theyre selling. Thats all that matters. People want these games.

Convince me that theyre bad for the industry. Tell me how Minecraft is inferior to say, LittleBigPlanet. Tell me how Outlast is inferior to Dead Space or Resident Evil. Tell me how Day Z is inferior to Medal of Honor.

Popularity doesn't equal quality, hence McDonalds, Twilight, Justin Beiber, One Direction.

I explained in my first post why they're bad; they promote lower standards of gameplay design.

They tend to revolve mostly or entirely on a central gimmick and have rather messy, amateurish level designs.

Your posts throughout this thread has been some of the most opinionated and that is what people are trying to explain to you.  Just because "you" dont like something, doesnt make it bad.  just means you dont like it.  And you can compare that to justin beiber if you want but there is obvoously people who like him, same goes to mcdonalds.  Not only that but i find this particular poor examples as they are the "popular to hate" stuff which is also annoying all on its own.

Games like Minecraft, Limbo, BattleBlock, etc are universarly loved by both critics and fans alike.  And id even go so far to say SuperMeatBoy and BattleBlock is just as good as mario from a gameplay standpoint. Both are much more challenging that is for sure.

If I don't like something, then in my opinion, it is bad. I never claimed this was any kind of objective truth, I'm just expressing my view.

You are right. But you fail to realize that the basic function of a game is the fun factor.

That's why I couldn't believe on how people were baffled at Flappy Bird's success.

It's easy to access and effing fun and challenging. Gamers don't need to know all the other technicalities.

I don't fail to realize that at all. But fun is a completely subjective quality. What's fun to one person may not be to another.

Challenge and interractiveness is the reason for any involvement with a videogame, point blank period.

I was thinking about getting Rayman Legends for PS4 the other day. It's in the store for 40 €, that's 30 € less than most other games. But then I thought, man, it's only a platformer. So I asked myself kinda the same question as the OP? My answer? I simply do not know. I didn't buy Rayman, so in that moment it was a no for me. But it could very well be that I have a hell lot of fun with Rayman. Maybe I'll get it sometime...

Overall, for me personal, pure Platformers aren't very appealing as a full priced game. I like the games you can get for 15 € digitally, but 40 € or even 60 € as in the OP? Man, that's a lot to ask for for such kind of game. Then again, I never regretted spending 150 DM (~75 €) for Donkey Kong Country. It was a blast to play and still is until today.

It's no easy question.

I paid $20 for Legends and $40 for Tropical Freeze. Thing is, I'd pay $60 for them. However I'm part of an extreme minority.
