Forums - Microsoft - Peter Molyneux promises advanced AI

""And given you state that you know nothing of the possibilities of both these consoles, why do you doubt the people that do?
""

==> because they are making games exclusively for 1 plateform, praise this plateform or bash the other one like Kojima about the Xbox360.

Syndicate was from Molyneux ???

hum, Populous was from Molyneux
Populous was Bullfrog
then Molyneux = Bullfrog
then Syndicate was from Molyneux too ... then Powermonger was Molyneux too

interesting ...

From Wikipedia:

Molyneux at Bullfrog Productions

Yes, I know he was not the man behind all ideas in these games, but he was Bullfrog's face & voice, he's Lionhead's face & voice. So yes, imo it can be really put that way: Bullfrog = Molyneux, Lionhead = Molyneux.

I usually enjoy his games but he really is full of shit.

mrstickball,

Some developpers praised the PS3, others the Xbox360. Strangely, people making a PS3 exclusive game, praise the PS3 and people making a Xbox360 game praise the Xbox360 ..............................................................

During the CoD4 developpment, they said Xbox360 was laking of hard drive and the PS3 has a limited IA capacity but at the end, the 2 games are similar !

u said,
""And since you admit that the PS3 development cycle is longer, shouldn't that mean that maybe the X360 can do some things better?""

==> that could suggest it, that could ...
I just think it is still too early to judge these 2 consoles in term of
"maximum capacity".

90% of PS3 praises have come from 1st or 2nd party developers.

Who's complained?? Third party developers. Those who make multiplatforms and have no allegiance to any company aka. EA and Valve and btw one is the biggest and the other the most respected.

Ur second part is BS, sorry

LOL I was just about to say the same thing about the graphics part.  I'm shocked that the Playstation 3 version of Lost Planet is inferior graphic wise.  If the PS3 is so superior graphic wise why do almost all multiplatform games look better on the 360?

well thats good to know
but we still dont know if 360 has better A.I then PS3

Stop ur shit about the PS3 not able to handle IA. You are just picking (again !) the old Ubisoft comment during the CoD4 developement :

"the best know example" TRANSLATE : "THE ONLY KNOW EXAMPLE" !

and I m waiting for the big Peter's revelation and big IA improvement,
Maybe a good surprise for the Xbox360.

And your evidence is?

The truth is Cell is a specialised processor, meaning it is much stronger than a general processor in some areas and weaker in others. One of the areas where Cell is weaker is AI. The general structure of AI code is very branchy, while the general structure of physics and graphics code is very calculation oriented. You can't improve your performance one way without sacrificing it in the other.

The Xbox 360 CPU is also geared more towards calculations than branches, but not nearly as much as the Cell.

This is true in theory, but the reality is that AI routines are not processor intensive in the way that graphics and physics calculations are. AI code typically takes up <10% of CPU time in most games so the theoretical advantage of the xenon in this area will never be seen by end users. The complexity of AI is generally inhibited by the skill of the programmer rather than any hardware limitation. It is highly unlikely that we will see any AI this generation that will make the Cell break a sweat.

OT: You can tell when Molyneux is lying, because his lips move. He's still one of the few legends of game design though.

The whole reason why the 360 was said that it can do better A.I was because of the amount of RAM available.

I know crap about consoles specs and how A.I. works so I don't even know if that comment was true, but this was stated when comparing 360 vs. PS3's AI during a AC article.

You sound technologically smart... would RAM be a factor on A.I? Would that limit the A.I. intelligence in a game?

LOL people having their own schedule. I remember a game called ultima7 where people did work/party/sleep etc. Its what 13+ years old? I am sure he has some more sophisticated interactions but I would be content with what we already had oblivion was rudimentary in comparison.

Oh and for third-party devs complaining about the ps3. If you as developer have finished a game on the 360(which until know was always the lead platform) you will be annoyed about porting to a rather different platform too. That's how it works. Uncharted/ratchet prove that the ps3 is at least as powerful as the 360. And multiplatform devs like cod4 and dmc do not seem to have problems with the ps3 either. Ea just sucks and valve didn't port it themselves they were just whining
