Forums - Nintendo - How much would the 3DS sell lifetime if...

In this scenario, the 3DS lifetime sales will be...

40M-50M 3 2.88%

50M-60M 1 0.96%

60M-70M 5 4.81%

70M-80M 15 14.42%

80M-90M 20 19.23%

90M-100M 23 22.12%

100M-110M 13 12.50%

110M-120M 11 10.58%

120M-130M 5 4.81%

130M+ 8 7.69%

Total:104

Everything went exactly as follows:

1. 2DS released in Japan within the next few months.

2. In 2015, the 3DSi and 3DSi XL are released, both at a low price point.  At the time of their release, the current three models all receive a price cut.  These new models will be like what the DSi was to the DS.  It will include some new features, but is not a next generation system.  3DSi sales will be counted under 3DS sales.

3. A constant supply of new and good games.  Nothing as big as 2013, but the number of new releases will not fall off of a cliff until the next gen handheld is near.

4. The ninth generation handheld is not released until mid 2017 the earliest.

So how much do you think the 3DS will sell global lifetime if this scenario plays out?

Please do not discuss the likelihood of this scenario, or at the very least don't focus on it.  The purpose of this thread is to discuss how many units will be sold in this scenario, and how great of an effect certain factors have.

157.69 million, largly depends on the games though

60-70 is my guess. Regardless of what Nintendo puts out and what price the system is, I don't see it selling anything close to DS numbers. DS captured a chunk of the casual market that won't return this time around (same as with the Wii) and handhelds are getting edged out by mobile.

That number is so close to PS2's. It's so trollish.

Anything below 70 Million shouldn't be in the Poll. The 3DS should be able to reach around that even without this wishful scenario.

With this scenario? It should be able to sell a max of 90 Million, since this would be a perfect end of life schedule. That means it would outsell GBA and PSP, but it won't happen. So...

Did... The 69 gave it away?

That and the edit.

I think the determining factor for the rest of the 3DS is how it capitalizes on being in a market without a feasible competitor in areas that it has been less than dominant in the past. Obviously Ninty will do well in Japan and America and select European countries. But with Vita not posing much of a threat to the 3DS, Ninty has the opportunity to open up new markets for its handheld and brand overall. That will decide whether or not 3DS can hit DS like potential or GBA like potential imo.
