Forums - Microsoft - The Xbox One Media Remote

So this uses the same wireless protocol as the wireless controllers? Since it still needs the Kinect to blast IR signals, there probably is no TV pointing here. It can probably control your Xbox One from another room.

Yeah, seems like it. Which would explain its price. Also, those light up keys look very nice.

Like I've been saying (but nobody has responded or acted like they read) you CAN'T control blu ray menus with Kinect by order of the Blu Ray association group consel overlords. Like you can't click Blu Ray menu options with your mouse on a PC. So this remote will make that easier so you don't have to fire up your controller. The extra features are just 'why not' bonuses.

Pass.

I currently use Kinect, Smartglass, and the controller. I have no interest in buying another remote.

I do agree that this might be hinting towards a cheaper Kinect-less version.

In fact, it could be quite the opposite
From what I heard, the remote need kinect. Therefore hinting that MS will try to strengthen kinect presence.

But i agree with most, this remote is a little contradictory to their early message.

Lol can we stop pretending kinect is important and necessary to the x1 now?

The option of using a remote has no reflection on the importance of Kinect with the Xbox One.

The media remote allows easy use of the Blu-Ray player as well as watching TV.  There's still a lot more you can do with Kinect and in some cases faster using voice commands.  However, it would certainly be faster than using gesture controls or the Xbox One wireless controller.

lol why on earth would anyone need a remote for this thing?

Options... Options everywhere!

You CAN ONLY CONTROL BLU RAY MENUS WITH THE XBOX ONE CONTROLLER. THIS WILL LET YOU CONTROL THEM.

Invisible man over here.

Wait? What? How many ways do they need for people to control the console? Oh well, it seems like a good remote.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

All these people saying " what about Kinect ".

Its an option for people who don't want to use it. Choice is brilliant. Kinect is Xbox One. Stop referring to Kinect as a peripheral.

My fanboy glasses won't let me see anything unless it has something to do with bashing M$. Sorry man, it's a blank page.

I hope you know how ironic that is given the current situation with Kinect.
