Sadly, the chances  are very slim. Nintendo is probably too scared to give it a try.

I don't get Whay they bought the franchise then.    Do you know how FF4 performed ?

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/7700/zero-tsukihami-no-kamen/    It only sold 80k in Japan according to this game's VGChartz page. I am pretty sure the game would have at least reached 200k if it would have been released in America and Europe.

Now I understand Why Nintendo doesn't look interested in the franchise anymore.

It's a shame we don't have data from the PS2 games to compare.

I always thought Nintendo owned part of the series, but that may be only the 2nd and 4th installment.

"While Tecmo Koei remains the sole owner of the Fatal Frame / Project Zero IP and franchise, Nintendo does own certain rights related to the fourth entry in the series and the Wii remake of Fatal Frame 2. [6]" (Wikipedia)

It was the highest selling of the series in Japan.

If we are leaving out of the discussion  the Fatal Frame 2 remake for the Wii that sold 100k , then you are right!

Good news then.  I would buy any system that had FF5 but I understand chances of getting a new game are higher if Nintendo doesn't own the franchise.

If we do, I hope its on the WiiU, the tablet would be the freaking perfect camera obscura.
Or vita, but WiiU preferably.

I really though the series was more popular than it really was.    With these numbers it'd very unlike for Tecmo to make money with the franchise on the HD consoles.

Investment would need to be much higher.

Knowing Nintendo, if there isn't a character with no green hat or doesn't speak intalin, don't count on it. Nintendo don't do mature game, too spooky for their image.

Yeah, that is why they won´t publish Bayonetta 2.

unfortunately games like this have good by way of doo-doo brown!!!!! it's far to niche for a major release

one can hope though
