Forums - Gaming - If X1 fails, will Wii U Flourish?

Love the denial on some people. The X1 has the advantage of 3rd party support and its selling almost as bad as the Wii U. Great position of power that is...

The failure of the X1 can only be measured with the exit from the market. If that doesnt happen, i have no idea what Microsoft would do with it. And that exit would definitly benefit the Wii U.
But ofc, this is all conjecture at this point. If X1 stick around despite losses, the Wii U wont see any meaningful benefits.

No it wont benefit Wii U, not by much. It would benefit PS4 much more. If you wanted an xbone and all of a sudden it isnt around for whatever reason. Are you more likely to get the next closest thing? or something completly different. Fact is PS4 is closer to Xone than Wii U is, not even a contest. Spec wise and library wise. And if not PS4 then a gaming PC which is still closer to xone than WIi U is.

There are many types of customer that choose Xbox that you are not contemplating. It would benefit both, but ofc Playstation more as that is the clear choice.

Developers will scramble for another console outlet!

Gamers will bite the bullet and buy the Wii U!

Not everyone will just go and buy a Ps4.

Of course they will, that's what happened with the PS2.

That's because if you wanted to play big titles like GTA, MGS, FF, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, and a plethora of other third party titles, you needed a PS2.

That's not the case today... all those series I just listed are multiplatform.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I think it it's highly likely that a portion of consumers were waiting for all next gen releases before buying a new console so I think it's highly likely to start seeing some increased sales for the wii u yoy in the very near future regardless of other console sales

I will permaban myself if the game releases in 2014.

in reference to KH3 release date

Nah. The Ouya will flourish, because Nintendo is doomed since 1889.

If the X1 fails, most gamers will just migrate to whichever console is the defacto leader with the largest library of games, in this case the PS4.

Almost nobody interested in an X1 would buy a Wii U, because the Wii U has none of big AAA 3rd party franchises except for watered down ports of the current-gen versions of the games.

Fact is though, the X1 isn't going anywhere... right now it's almost double the price of the Wii U and it's still outselling it 2:1 in the US... as soon as major titles like Titanfall start hitting and M$ releases Kinect-less bundles at $399, Sony will have lost its advantage in the US. Europe and Japan are different situations because they are both Sony territory and Japan doesn't buy videogame consoles not made by Japanese companies.

this

1) The XB 1 may or may not become as successful as MSFT would like but it is not gong to fail along the lines of the Wii U or worse

2) The Wii U struggled for a full year before it had any new competition from the XB1 and PS4 so why would it make a difference?

3) I want very much for the Wii U to be successful as it is our homes only home console- But Nintendo has given a half assed effort on the Wii U since day 1 and that has not changed. If they get serious about making the Wii U successful I think it is still possible (to an extent) for it to enjoy some success- It will be obvious if/when Nintendo gets serious about the Wii U- so far it has been very obvious they have and continue to treat every person who has and will buy a Wii U as a "sucker"

For the record I bought launch day as a B day present for my 8 yr old- After Lego City , Rayman, and Pikmin among others were delayed then the big drought ensued the choices for games for my son were mostly low quality kids games (ala Transformers and the Ubi Marvel game), higher quality games made for teenagers and adults and Mario (which he loved for years while he had a Wii but really got tired of Mario platformers games and has not recovered since )

Right now he would trade the entire Wii U library for Minecraft- a perfect game for any Nintendo console, an investment well worth it for Nintendo (the game would sell and help bring in a big chunk of todays gaming next generation) and a game that is now only on every major gaming platform EXCEPT Wii U (or Nintendo in general)

The way Nintendo has handled the Wii U and treated Wii U owners has cost them a ton of goodwill capital and trust in the marketplace- yes are a vocal minority on the internet that will defend Nintendo no matter how they are treated but the majority of Wii U owners, and more importantly prospective Wii U owners feel the same way as I do- The only action Nintendo could take that would be worse than their handling of the Wi U to date is if they discontinued the console between now and the next 24-36 months and/or dropped their 1st and 2nd party game release schedule even lower than it has been to date-

It is 100% on Nintendo that they have lost 3rd party support and yet they still release 1st and 2nd party games as if they had all the support in the world

The title said if the XBO fails, will the WiiU flourish? Those multiplat games aren't coming to WiiU so that leaves the PS4 as the only option.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Its around the same strength and has similar achitecture, XO ports will always happen IMO. Developers have no reason to throw away an additional 20-30% in sales just because the Ps4 is the market leader. The last time that was the norm, each platform was vastly different in power, storage, architecture and audience.

I don't know the cost of porting from PC/PS4 to XO but I'd bet its a lot cheaper then it was last era with the PS3/360.
