Forums - Gaming - 2013 vs 2014 Hardware Sales

What do you think?

GAMING IS DOOMED!!!! 9 21.95%

PS4's sales will make up... 13 31.71%

2013 will win 9 21.95%

2014 will win 9 21.95%

Total:40

Yearly hardware sales have been lowering every year since 2009, so I'm making this thread to compare 2013's hardware numbers to 2014's numbers to see if it will continue to decline.

Edit #1

2013 - 4,445,212  (4.4 million)

2014 - 2,983,893 (3 million)

Gap gew by 300k making 2013 1.4 million more than 2014

Even with the PS4 doing great, Wii U and Vita are doing better and the addition of the Xbox One, the lower numbers of 3DS, PS3, 360, PSP, and Wii make 2013 win. Who will win? Probably 2013...

Bump.

Was 2007 bigger than early 2006?

mM

And I Can´t even see next year being bigger than this year, the decline will probably continue.

2014 - 2,667,149 (2.7 million)

I don't get it, how is it that you even think 2014 hardware would be lower cosider it got 2.7 million and 2014 is only started?  We are still in in 2nd month of 2014.

Ahhhmm... Good question. But I'll say 2014.
Wii U gets it's best system sellers and a future price cut. Vita having "momentum" and a new model releasing. PS4... PS4'ing. Xbone is looking to do decently, and the 3DS should get a price cut + we don't the games for the last 6 months of the year. Maybe with only Next-gen the numbers will be higher.
360 is dying, PS3 is almost done, Wii and PSP are dead. So lower numbers for each of this, but they were already pretty low last year, which given an advantage to 2014.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Because it shows the first 4 weeks of 2013 and 2014 (About to edit in week 5), and 2013 is ahead.

I think numbers will be up overall thanks to PS4 & X1.  They will more than make up for the declines in PS3/360, and the other changes will be relatively small.

Overall though it would be interesting to break up the hardware numbers by manufacturer.  Pretty sure Nintendo makes up the majority of the losses since 2009.

It is true, but January was an above average month for 2013.

  • PS3, 360, Wii, DS, PSP declines were more pronounced from Feb 13, and are heavily weighted in the 2nd half of the year.
  • Wii U had an OK Jan 13 but then fell on average to 100k/month for the following 6 months.

Given that, I think Jan 13 is not at all representative of 13 overall.

* 3DS is down a lot, an unexpected decline.

I think this year will most likely be the lowest year for sales going forward in this generation, if it is at all. Next year the new generation should be able to offset the low numbers of last generation.
