I'm not sure why the 3DS should be peaking now (the middle of February of all times), or why 50,000K a week for North America is bad anyway.

Care to elaborate a little?

I actually meant it's peak year, not it's peak month. And it's not 50k a week in america, it's 50k in an entire month.

For comparisons sake the 3DS sold around 150k this time last year, with less software and no 2DS

For your consideration...(would've imaged it, but VGChartz image poster is broken apparently)

Note that this is a "weekly" chart, and the 3DS's numbers for North America are quite clearly 50K in that week.

It's selling 50K per week in America, not per month.

He's talking about NPD numbers. The 3DS was way overtracked on VGC and is actually at 50-70k for the month.

Might we see some sources for these sales postings, then? I did some googling and could find nothing to suggest the 3DS sold 50K in a month.

I'll readily grant that VGC may have overtracked the 3DS, but we're talking about overtracking it by a factor of five here. That seems a little ridiculous even by VGC standards.

...and it would also suggest that the Wii U was almost doubling it sales figures...and considering the state of the Wii U, I find that very difficult to believe.

There's really not much Nintendo can do at this point. The handheld market has shrunk way too much at this point. Smartphones and tablets aren't going away. I don't even think the 3DS will pass the PSP anymore.

Ha? If you don't think the 3DS is passing the PSP, your crazy. A down week doesn't mean anything, 3DS is going to continue to get super solid support, and it's still going to sell really well.

I think you need to actually look at the overall numbers. It is not selling as well as you think. 13 million last year, and that's probably its peak year, lets say 12 million this year (which may be very generous) and 11 million the following year ... that's not getting you far past 80 million at that rate.

70k after a holiday season for a month like January indicates that all holiday momenteum has been lost (and Nintendo wasn't apparently happy with holiday sales to begin with).

Nintendo won't give out numbers, but the estimates are between 50-70k.

Can u be more specific? Was it from a reliable poster with a good track record like CreamSugar or just random Gaffers?

Aquamarine, she has pretty much a perfect track record when it comes to these things.

Leaked NPD numbers from Gaf. WiiU was also overtracked, it only did 49k for the month.

If 3DS is truly under 100k for January it's the biggest disappointment of the month. XBox One doesn't even come close.

It wasnt 130k for the month?

No way 3DS did only that more than Wii U

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m
