Forums - Nintendo - Indies for Nintendo!

Its amazing how much of an 180 this really is from the wii days in terms of Indies + Nintendo... Like seriously... I remember there were a lot of articles about how bad the relationship of Indies have gotten with Nintendo back when the wii was popular and how Nintendo was heavily criticized for not showing as much indie support in 2013 and 2012 as MS and Sony seem to be but now it seems that Nintendo platforms have just as much success, if not more in some cases, than its competition which is impressive (and ironic in some cases) based on the History of Nintendo

NIntendo's the kindest to indies out of the big 3

What makes them better than Sony and Microsoft?

Sony has several vita titles in "certification limbo"

From what I've observed with

Nintendo's much easier to contact and set up a conversation rapport with, very responsive, and they get in depth with the folks about the games. They did this with Armillo  and various others. Plus they have better deals wit some of the the other folks. And their own framework is great for nascent programmers

Both Nintendo and Sony are very easy to get in contact with. It's as easy as going to the site and filling out an application. In addition it's super easy to tweet guys at either company. In my experience it was much faster to become a registered Wii U developer. With both companies it took about a week for them to get back after applying, but with Wii U that was practically it. They've pushed all the legal stuff back so that devs can really quickly get working. With 3DS (which is a completely different process) and Sony the team needs to fill out legal information before they become registered.

The whole process with Sony was super easy though. It did take a fair amount of time, but I had an account manager helping me out through the whole process. That level of personal communication just doesn't exist with Nintendo. Both companies are always their to help, but in my experience Sony is much better at it.

Sony also has PhyreEngine. It's a much stronger engine than NWF, but both are comparable in the grand scheme of things. Main advantage of Phyre is that it's multiplatform.

Both Sony and Nintendo are great with indies. Saying one is kinder than the other when they are practically equal is silly.

Also do you have links for the Vita games stuck in certification limbo?

I don't know about Sony, but the Penny Arcade Report had a few articles on how Microsoft went from the best for indies early last gen to the worst for indies by the time Nintendo launched the Wii U.  One of the big things I remember was that they had to pay to patch games.  Whereas on the PS3 or Steam, they could easily make that change.  There were also complaints about how the store was setup to not give indie games much of a chance.

There were other things, but I can't really remember.  And since the PA Report got shut down, I can't find the articles.

Oh yeah Microsoft was bad, really bad.

Since the middle of this year though they have been turning things around. ID@XBOX is a great program and is almost identical to what Nintendo is doing.

Nintendo then needs to spread the presence of the availability of these apps to the market they had created with the Wii.
Some people needs to be shown what they yet not know they might want, though bundle, ads both digital & physical not just on their hardware but by other media, promotional downloads, etc.

Except they spend less money on it than Nintendo XD

Nintendo's friiendlier than Sony in my experience. They seem more interested
