What makes them better than Sony and Microsoft?

I don't know about Sony, but the Penny Arcade Report had a few articles on how Microsoft went from the best for indies early last gen to the worst for indies by the time Nintendo launched the Wii U.  One of the big things I remember was that they had to pay to patch games.  Whereas on the PS3 or Steam, they could easily make that change.  There were also complaints about how the store was setup to not give indie games much of a chance.

There were other things, but I can't really remember.  And since the PA Report got shut down, I can't find the articles.

Oh yeah Microsoft was bad, really bad.

Since the middle of this year though they have been turning things around. ID@XBOX is a great program and is almost identical to what Nintendo is doing.

Except they spend less money on it than Nintendo XD
