Good, he has the responsibility for the Wii U now, what will he do?

He's right in his statement that the Wii U hasn't had any momentum, it is just plain boring at this point. When the console launched, and when Pikmin 3 launched, and then when 3D World launched, those were the three point that the Wii U actually was mentioned in any news site that isn't IGN or so.

The console has disappointed me immensely, and I don't see it changing. At least MK and Smash are looking good, but will it be enough to turn around the fortunes of the console? Personally I don't think so, but I'd love to be wrong on that. But at this point it looks dark.

Yep.

Of course he wouldn't. He has shown that he doesn't know what's best for Nintendo.

Trust me, it could get worse.  Nintendo could become of the flappy bird company of cheap mobile crap.  At least the software is still high quality, Wii U bomb or not.

I guess it could be worse, but Nintendo definitely needs new leadership -- not necessarily one that panders to the demands of investors.

Companies and countries collapsed under new leaderships... Some things are just better not to change, at least not radically and if Iwata goes then Nintendo's future is rather uncertain. You can protest, cry, scream and wreck stuff around you in hope that Iwata resigns and that won't work. You would rather to have people with less experience to lead a company that is over 100 years old just to turn it into a train wreck?

Didn't something similar happen to Sony, in a way?

It happens to all companies.

The problem for Iwata is that there isn't much that can be done in the short term. The Wii U is what it is and third parties aren't coming no matter what. You could offer a model without a gamepad or incentivize third party releases, but it's not like that's going to result in 80 million lifetime sales. And they don't have the resources where they could pump out Metroid, Starfox, Zelda, etc. any time soon. Instead, they have to carefully plan their next console and make sure they can get third parties on board. And decide if a hybrid console would be best and so forth.

He doesnt think about alot of things from what I can see. At the expense of nintendo.

Agreed... Anyway when Yamauchi stepped down and Iwata became the CEO, it was the right decision... Yes, Iwata screwed up with handling Gamecube yet he wasn't ready for it, but at least he was successful with DS and Wii by taking a different route than competition.

Remember original Gameboy and Atari Lynx and Sega Game Gear/Nomad? Gameboy ruled...Now look at DS and PSP, similar situation and who won? DS, so Nintendo's strategy involving handhelds wasn't really different with DS, then they made a similar move with Wii and you know how it paned out...

You can't have never ending stream of complete successes... Look at Sony from before and now.

They simply ran out of luck, innovation and inspiration...

He wants to sink with the ship. How stubborn and selfish.

Wii U is on its way out. It's been only very bad news since the quarterly reports and now investors are waiting to see the FY results in April.

Everything Iwata said was hypothetical and nothing was concrete. He keeps on promising like he did for the past 4 years, yet he never delivers and always asks for understanding. Meanwhile the public image of his company is deteriorating and the consumer, industry and investor trust is about to vanish completely.

There's nothing that will change the fate of their home consoles. We all know where this will end.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

The rumors of his resignation were purely fabricated in the west. It was never on the table.

New leadership does not equal the right decisions. Thats alot like football and changing the coach. Doesnt make a huge difference if you dont have the support structure for him.

Resignation is something to be done when the leadership no longer knows what to do. Iwata has proven with the new plan they presented that is has a sound plan for Nintendo, and its a smart one. I wish him all the best, and most of all i am looking forward to more great games coming to their entertainment consoles wich i can enjoy.
