I hate it. It makes me want to focus on that one player the whole match. I'm the rambo type player that does'nt hide at all.

Camping used to be almost like cheating, but in modern games the sniper is a key role. And it's a role I like to play. It's actually hard to be effective at it, as in COD there are usually always multiple paths to each sniping perch and once you kill someone they know where you are and can usually take you out with a grenade or back door approach... so you have to keep moving and finding new cover. I enjoy the strategy of it more than the "twitch" game of running and gunning with assault rifles. I personally really preferred providing battlefield cover and taking out snipers with the light machine gun in Blops2, but I find those weapons less effective in Ghosts so far into my play time with it. So I've been more of a sniper and it's a perfectly legit play style.

This isn't the early days of shooters when a rocket jump could get you on a hidden ledge and you could pick off the battlefield in complete safety.

More importantly, why do you believe it is legitimate?

it is an effective strategy to win a MP match.

I laugh at the people who complain about campers. "Hey stop camping you unskilled idiot". My response? "You know where to find me so why is it so hard to kill me?" lol.

I hardly ever camp unless I'm in the mood to just completely wipe the floor against my competition. Camping is not for noobs, running out into the middle of the map is for noobs but camping is for the strategists who take advantage of a very thorough method of getting kills as well as protecting your back with familiar walls/open spaces/cars etc...

That will be one boring game where everyone is not a "noob". Everyone will just camp, nobody will confront one another.

I personally hate lobbies like that where I have to go the extra mile just to find people. Its really boring for me, otherwise I'd find a nice corner to park my butt and pick off an unexpected passerby. I can't do it.

Out of the thousands of games I've played in a FPS I don't think I've had too many matches where every single person camped. There's always noobs.

Games devs must prevent spawn camping and the other unfair kinds of camping, but camping by itself, exploiting a good position in the same way a real life sniper or marksman would do, is legit. BTW, in real life battlefields are normally wide enough to allow to outflank campers, only narrow, deep and unavoidable passages without air support available would create a situation similar to the worst cases of camping in games.

Spawn camping is the real problem.

Camping is ok if you fulfill the objectives. Cannot stand BF4 players way up in the mountains sniping while doing nothing on the Conquest objectives… Same for Killzone, same for all shooters. Got no problem with deathmatch camping. Spawn camping is bad if it's a design problem, if not, it's just a good team against noobs.
