I think Rockstar knows this too, that is why there is not a sequal on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Red Dead, I believe, would suffer if a new game came every couple years. Red Dead redmption doesn't have that appeal of driving around like a maniac and causing chaos that GTA has. If you do not play for story then Red Dead is not for you. I believe most gamers, including myself, didn't even finish Red Dead redemption and will not pick up a sequal, at least not right away. That being said I think it's a great game (I played probably 85% of it) and I expect a sequal some time this generation for Xbox One and PS4. I just don't think the series is as strong as other people on this site think. I believe Rockstar will make one or two other games besides Red Dead before we see a sequal.

I believe we will see Rockstar games release games in a pattern like this

GTA5 Next gen port -> A totally different Rockstar game -> GTA6 -> Red Dead Redemption 2 -> Some other Rockstar Game -> GTA7

Nah, practically no game sells like GTA5. The west is still largely in untapped in the series. California , Utah, Nevada, Oregon, and Wyoming could all easily support another game, or two in the Wild West time frame. These regions are very different looking than the regions they already used.I would tap this new game in a second.

I think it will sell as much if not more, because it did so well with barely any advertising before. When the second comes out, I bet we will see more marketing.

A lot of Rockstars games are era based. Gamer demographics will play a large part. Myself being a older gamer, love the wild west theme. Unfortunately most wild west games haven't been very good. Red Dead has been the best of the bunch so far. Not the most innovative, Gta on a horse.
