Well, some people don't like Mario Kart. I don't get these citizens.

However, to most people, Mario Kart is a real system seller. Not having the games and stumbling out of the gate is what has/is hurting the Wii U. I chose "Yo Mama" in the poll as that sums up my feelings well.

According to Iwata that is the case. Once 3DS sales stalled from the price and tsunami, he made the choice to put a lot of resources into new 3DS titles to revive the console. It seems to fit as well, Wii output practically vanished, Wii U still feels like it's still getting started and we have what feels like an overabundance of 3DS titles, there is no balance. Also with both current consoles being a lot more powerful they are really tapped for resources way more than Wii+DS. It'd be impossible to continue this way they need to expand.

Some people need a good spanking; except I'm afraid some people might actually enjoy it.

The 3DS's existence does hurt the Wii U, but I don't think for the reasons you're saying. The 3DS's library is only bigger because it's been out longer. When launch alligned, the Wii U has actually gotten and getting more releases than the 3DS ever did. I believe the main reason why 3DS hurts Wii U, and why all Nintendo handhelds hurt their home console counterparts, is because their librarys are so similar, so naturally most people are gonna take the cheaper route to playing Nintendo games, which is always the handheld.

yeah but no, history has shown that the majortiy of the time the console version outsells its handheld counterpart. So this theory doesnt hold water.

The 3DS is just taking a good proportion of development resources from the Wii U. That is one way the 3DS is hurting the Wii U right now.

tsc... tsc...

the 3ds has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with Wiiu struggle. Nintendo is developing lots of games for both platforms

The WiiU has two problems that were extensively discussed in these forums: poor branding and poor marketing

Anything besides that (power, game library etc.) aren´t main issues and are just fanboy talk,

Both struggle due to the generational increase in budget and time traditional game developments require for both consoles. Making software for the 3DS takes similar resources as a Wii one... and Nintendo already has a history of droughts, the few releases Wii had during its last years was blamed on the 3DS. That's why they are merging their development for future generations. Just develop one Mario Kart that works on both, develop two mario's (2D and 3D) instead of four. They can also merge the two zelda's (2D handheld and 3D console) to release on both devices. Then the game releases doesn't become oversaturated as some people complained during the past few years.

And since they can support both devices with just one title of their main series, then they can dedicate their time to develop other genres or make new ips.

The WiiU is its own problem, it has yet to make its case to consumers. Anyone interested in a 3DS doesn't necessarily need to care about the WiiU. It doesn't add or subtract sales, not to a significant degree anyway. In terms of development the output for the 3DS will always be higher due to scope.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

In not sure how much this affects things but the handheld and console this generation are more similar than any generation before it.

Gameboy vs Super Nintendo-4 colors vs 32,000 colors

Gameboy Color vs Nintendo 64-2D vs 3D

Gameboy Advance vs Gamecube-2D vs 3D

Nintendo DS vs Wii-mostly 2D, touch controls vs 3D, motion controls

Nintendo 3DS vs Wii U-3D vs 3D, both have motion/touch controls

Not only that but many of the games are similar

Super Mario 3D Land vs Super Mario 3D World

Zelda:Ocarina of Time 3D vs Zelda:Wind Waker HD

DKC Returns 3D vs DKC Tropical Freeze

Mario Kart 7 vs Mario Kart 8

Super Smash Bros 3DS vs Super Smash Bros Wii U

Then u also have to consider 3DS also has Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem and many others, costs half the price and a family is more likely to own multiple handhelds compared to consoles. Obviously 3DS isnt the only problem or the biggest problem but its very possible it contributes to sluggish Wii U sales
