Typically what my friends have doesn't really influence what I get. I get the systems I get because they have enough games I want to warrant a purchase, and if they are at a price I am willing to pay.

almost everyone I know who actually buys games have a ps3 or ps2 to play the latest fifa or COD including my brother, and he gives me the usual "you should get a ps3 to play COD with all of us" so yeah I get my share of peer pressure. But since I only need one fifa and COD per generation and love nintendo games more than anything I don't really care.
My closer friends don't buy games but we regularly get together to play so they contribute to buy the controllers and games we like

Nope. I buy the console the has the games that most interest me.

This resulted in me having a PS3 during high school, and a Gamecube during middle school (I had a Wii and PS2 too, but weren't my go-to consoles). Most of the dudes in my group of friends had Xbox 360 in high school, and PS2 in middle school.

I personally prefer adventure and rpg games.My friends love fighting,sports and shooters.I buy a console that suits my gaming interest not for my friends.

Nah, I'm an outcast because I'm located on the other side of the office which kind of sucks. They're labor workers while I'm a desk guy. One of the guys just asked what system we were getting, and all of them said Xbox One because they enjoyed the 360.

I buy the console that interests me the most and has the most games I want to play on it. I love jrpgs so the PS2/PS3 were the go to consoles for me in high school. Now I just got the PS4 and recently built a gaming PC for anything else, along with a Vita. All my friends have a PS4 now, however, their purchases did not influence me in anyway. If anything, I was going to give up console gaming and just be PC/Vita this generation.

This is how some of my friends are.

They're all fine with western games I'm interested in, or even Japanese games that really don't look Japanese, but anything that looks Japanese they're not interested in.  So games like Dragon's Crown, Yakuza, Tales, Valkyria Chronicles, etc, they're not interested in.

Rebel. How did your friends react?

They actually respect others' tastes even if some of them (not all) think Nintendo is kiddy.

However I didn't get a Wii just to go against the others, it was because I wanted to play Super Mario Galaxy and Zelda Twilight Princess.
