Evolution. From Pong,8 bit monochromatic games, midi tracks,to orchestral music, advanced ai,60 fps,hd visuals and the rise of online games popularity. It is considered a given nowadays that big budget releases are accompanied by fully realized online services that create and sustain a dedicated fanbase needs.Single player modes seem to lose their main role in the minds of both developers and gamers.I grew up loving videogames as a shared experience with others, became fond of their competitive nature and gradually entered this online evolution too.But for what new it offered to me it never took away the appreciation I have for a brand new epic single player game. It's always the first thing that jumps to mind when I want to think the reasons I grew up as a gamer, when I want to speak of something memorable I gained through playing and when I search for reasons to continue my gaming life.So what's your take on this?Which is the ideal relationship between single player modes and online?Has the online part of games won you over in place of single player affairs?

Around the Network

I barely play any kind of dedicated multiplayer (only World of Tanks, really). Ideally, I see multiplayer being seamlessly integrated into SP, like Dark/Demon's Souls, or Infamous 2. Doesn't take away from SP one bit, but adds lots!

Competitive multiplayer, in my eyes, is just about only good locally.

I barely ever play online, single player experiences will always be the reason I buy games, which is why game like Titanfall dont interest me at all and I'll take a game like Borderlands over Destiny any day.

Considering multiplayer's progress these last ten years, no.

Local multiplayer seems to live on the background too. It's a shame as it was great back in N64 days.

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say (except I don't play World of Tanks)....

I play Monster Hunter 3 online but other than that, I rarely get into the online scene of my games (I do like online co op)

Hell no... Without Single player taking the front seat, we wouldn't have games like Mario 3d world, The Last of Us, Xenoblade, Ni No Kuni and etc... Single Player should always be the main focus with multiplayer being the long term value of the game... Not multiplayer being everything, in some special cases, multiplayer only is fine but in most cases, no thanks. If I am ever out and I want to play games on my laptop/3ds/phone with potentially no wifi around, I would want to play an awesome single player game
