I picked up an expensive Linksys AC router few months ago for my Nvidia Shield streaming, and while better than my old 802.11N...there is no way this can to 1080p let alone 4K.

Consumer grade WiFi is quite terrible but industrial grade stuff is getting there. So I wouldn't upgrade just yet, but in a few years when we get better tech it would be worthwhile.

hold it, that infrastructure is being payed by my monthly bills and the neighbours and everyone in the neighbourhood ( which uses the same connection for everyone except the last 10 feet into the house , major rip-off)

and i also suggested another monthly sub for the datacenters

Yes, but that system only works without a data cap, as long as only a few percentage of the users downloads/streams several hundred GB every month. The greater that percentage gets, the costs are exploding for the providers to expand their infrastructure.

And it is only fair that someone who produces a multiple of the average data traffic, pays more.

You'll have to invest in more than "a good monitor" as 4k streaming would be a lag fest on anything below 10 Mbps of download speed, and that's being conservative. Hell, I had 6.5 Mbps back when I used Onlive a lot and it was still laggy  and jittery as all hell, and that wasn't even 4k. I can only imagine the slide show then. 

Imo, streaming will never take over for gaming as titles are simply becoming too big. I'll take the hardware and reliability over streaming everyday of the week.
