According to VGC GTA franchise sold about 140m and Pokémon about 230m. Indeed, it isnt 5 to 1. Its closer to 2 to 1 (1.64 to be accurate).

Since their inception, sure. However, it's obvious that Pokemon peaked in its first generation, while Grand Theft Auto has never been bigger than it is right now. And GTA was massive during the PS2 era.

When you compare the two franchises over the last 10 years, or the last 15 years, they're much closer together. It's nowhere near a 2:1 split.

Well i was just wanting an accurate analysis there. It wasnt my claim.

Maybe the poster meant that with the time it takes to make one GTA Nintendo makes about 5 pokémon games? Maybe that's what he meant. I can only speculate.

Nintendo should buy SegAtlus and BandaiNamco.

That's exactly what I meant.

It hardly matters. It was never my intention to argue that GTA is "bigger" or more profitable than Pokemon or anything. Only to point out that Take-Two would not benefit from exclusivity with Nintendo, any more than Activision would, or EA, or Capcom, or Square-Enix, or Bamco, or Sega. None of these companies have anything to gain from being bought by Nintendo or any other hardware producer. A Sega merger might have been possible before the Atlus acquisition. Now it's a pipe dream.

That's not the way to go. Think about Nintendo's previous acquisitions. Small teams like Rareware, Retro Studios, Monolith Soft. Man, those small acquisitions really paid off, right? That's how it's done.

Nintendo isn't making aqusitions like it has previously. There's no reason Nintendo shouldn't and couldn't think bigger.

Wo'nt happen, but CD Projekt RED would be sweet. The witcher game AND that futuristic title (cyberpun 2077 if I'm correct).

Looks like the futuristic shooter the Wii U needs (military ones dont sell well)

Cyberpunk 2077 is, just like Witcher, WRPG.

Well, it makes the idea even more attractive!

On the other side, I think they should acquire a studio that would create a nice non-military shooter for nintendo utilising Wii U Gamepad as Wii U Zapper. That thing just screams for some sniper-stuff.

Treyarch, maybe? They did fantastic job so far on controls for Wii titles.

Capcom would be a great start. If it becomes seriously profitable, then try for someone like Square Enix.

Let's just take networking. GC/GBA gen had no networking capabilities. Nintendo at that point has virtually zero experience with mass market level networking and online gaming. Unlike MSony who have multiple divisions that have worked with this type of technology for decades.

With Wii/DS this proved to be true as their first attempt at such a network was largely dismal. It was clearly lacking in major details and multiple titles proved that it wasn't really ready for the type of scale and functionality expected from a modern gaming network.

I suppose the ethernet addon I bought to play Phatasy Star Online for the GC along with the monthly subscription fee to Sega was all just a dream.

They also released

Granted there was no eshop or anything close to what they offer now but there was online for GC granted it was only 2 games.  I have to say Nintendo isn't too far behind in online and at least it is still free.  They just need to improve the VC service and make improvements to Miiverse for now.  I see nothing that Sony or Microsoft have in terms of online capabilities that makes me jealous.  Sure PSN+ seems like a good service but I'd rather own my games.  The only other online complaint is about the ids tied to the system.  They seem to be making strides in this area with merging the 3DS and Wii U eshop accounts.  Eventually they won't have it tied to the systems.

Holy shit fuck. Are you goddamn serious? One tiny attachment that was no where near successful does not mean GC had online. No one in their right mind would make a claim GC had an online infrastructure which is exactly my point. With that ridiculas logic I could claim NES in Japan had networking with its famicom modem, right?

First of all, Nintendo should purchase some online-savvy tech company. Seriously, half of their problems these past few years can be connected to below-average online services. More than any single comparable game studio, what Nintendo could really use is some people to improve Nintendo Network.

This could hopefully result in:

  • Miiverse being improved
  • Better online play
  • More/better online services like PokeBank
  • Faster download times for games and updates
  • More efficent operating systems

It wouldn't even have to be a huge company! A small, experienced firm of 50 people could work wonders without pushing Nintendo's budget.

I think this would be a good start. They would need a better online infrastructure before acquiring anyone.
