Theres... a New Ouya

Ouya has just announced a revised version of their Android-powered gaming system. This new version will retail for $129, which makes it $30 more expensive than the current version, which will remain on store shelves.

The new console will feature a black outer shell with a controller to match. According to Ouya's press release, the new SKU will offer improved WiFi and a controller that is "refined." In addition, this console will sport 16GB of internal storage, as opposed to the original's 8GB.

This announcement comes on the heels of the departure of Muffi Ghadiali, one of Ouya's founders.

Wait...no hardware improvement? The fuck.

EDIT:

p.s.
Thanks to everyone who voted for me in the User Contest, due to the absolutely shitty internet in the place I've been for the last three weeks I sadly couldn't say this earlier :D (I'll include this in every post of me this weekend, so I hope everyone who voted for me will eventually see it)

:P

Shelves? Last I heard shelves were too good for the OUYA and it usually sits somewhere on the floor next to the unsold copies of PS2 games if it's even there at all.

Requiring for every game to have a free demo was callous on the part of the console makers for the game developers' need to actually make money.

Great. The first one sold like gangbusters and I am positive that this one will totally do the same.

I've read and researched the inital release controller is kind of wonky. I bet this upgrade is what that was about. That and I bet 8GB is same price as 16GB so why not drop a new sku? So I bet they fixed the complaints in that regard, but I do know you can hook up and any bluetooth enabled controllers like the ds3 and they play perfectly the same as far as control/latency.

I really want a Ouya when it gets a TegraK1 or Tegra 5 something more powerful, but even then Ouya has a lot of features, the library continues to grow. It does media programs Youtube/Plex/Netflix etc. every game can be tried out for 1 hour on it. You can also side load apps/emulators and most function extremely well. The 16GB is a nice upgrade especially if the controller has no latency now. Good news imho.

Here's the original for comparision.

Price increase seems wierd to say the least. I have now increased my level of not wanting one due to the increased price. I love gadgets some of which are near useless and pretty stupid but even I have no interest in Ouya so its hard to see how more level headed people would be interested.

someone please build a ouya-likey thing but without processor, just a I/O controller. Let me connect my smartphone to it. just a small box that's connected to my tv and maps the controller input to the phone.

there is no need for a dedicated android console when there are already shitloads of smartphones out there.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

I have never seen one of those Oyeah machines in stores

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

So basically you want a phone with an HDMI port, just hook it up with a cable to a TV and map a PS3/whatever controller and bam.

maybe that is what i am thinking of now. well it's not like i really want that because most of the games for android aren't good. i haven't found a game with any depth yet, maybe it's because touch only controls. but a home 'station' (its not really a console) could expand the possibilities for developers.

honestly i think apple / samsung should do what i described. it has to be a buyable, advertisable product from one of the big players to succeed.
