Forums - Microsoft - Gears of War: Black Tusk job postings reveal emotional character-driven story, multi-screen & more

Gears of War is now in the hands of new Microsoft outfit Black Tusk Studios, and the company is currently hiring for the franchise. Some potential new details have emerged from the team’s job adverts, suggesting the new shooter will be an emotional character-driven piece.

We covered the Gears of War IP sale between Epic Games and Microsoft yesterday. Hit the link for the full story.

Now, a handful of job postings have revealed some interesting nuggets regarding the new Xbox One shooter, chiefly this posting for a lead writer.

The post begins, “We are looking for a seasoned storyteller who can help us bring Microsoft’s next big IP to life. This individual will help us develop the characters, story arc, emotional tone, pacing, dialogue, and flavor of a story that will shape the spirit of this new franchise.”

Role responsibilities include, “Act as a champion of story, characters, and emotional engagement across the game and game team,” “Create a cast of distinctive, engaging, and imperfect characters that players love (or love to hate),” and ,”Define a compelling story that takes the player on a hero’s journey, with a keen eye to story structure and pacing.”

Unsurprisingly, it could be that Microsoft’ SmartGlass has some part to play in Gears of Wars Xbox One, according to this posting for a Senior Online Engineer.

It reads, “The Senior Online Engineer will be responsible for design and implementation of robust, secure, and scalable web services, and deployment processes to support customer-facing applications. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to work side by side with programmers, designers and production staff, and be passionate about owning a reliable high-traffic web application to support console and multi-screen end points.”

KAREN FUCKING TRAVIS!!!

Get on.

Microsoft just keep making amazing game announcements this gen. This is like 360 on 100 steroid tablets at once. This gen Microsoft is on fire.

Sounds good, maybe make the characters a little less gorilla-ish but I am always a fan of story/character driven games.

I'm not sure how you reached this conclusion from the article in the OP.  This seems to indicate that development hasn't even really started yet.  We have zero idea about whether or not Black Tusk can pull off Gears as well as Epic.

On topic, I'd be willing to be these postings are mostly formalities.  The top candidates are likely already in contact.

Nice, I want to see something less shooter and more story driven.

Because we get more Gears from a studio with alot of Great people from the industry brought together.

Microsoft just keep coming up with big game announcements. We know for sure Gears is on its way with UE4.

I hope that the first game they release stays true to the Gears gamestyle though!! I love Gears and it is probably my Fav series of the 360 days.
