Really goes to show the size of economies.  Essentially hundreds of thousands of dollars of value was destroyed in one PC game battle.

I would dub it "Titanfall"

That's awesome!

It sure made up for a good fireworks show!

A Titan is huge Super Star Destroyer type ships in the Eve universe and is impossibly expensive. The first Titan was developed by having a 2500 man guild harvest resources for months on end. At the time, a 2500 man guild was huge. Now guilds in Eve have up to 12 000 members. This is what allows these ridiculously huge battles to take place as they fight for territories.

Silly question but, the players whose avatars where on those sunken ships have seen their characters die and are now forced to start over again or do their characters respawn in another place?

There's no permadeath, but like the emperor in Star Wars, each player have a clone lab. As their body dies, its spirit is transferred to a clone body. What hurts is the loss of ships and assets. So if you have invested heavily in a ship, it hurts like hell to see it lost - but that is part of the reason this game is so fun.

Here's one more picture from the battle. Imagine every single square dot that you see here being someone who sits somewhere behind his or hers PC.

@Incubi_ Thanks for the explanation.

And yes, that's a lot of people fighting for an unpayed rent

(I've read the OP link, I know there's more than that)

EVE is known for having the biggest player economy in video game history.

Now that I think about it Space flight hasn't really advanced to much in terms of the tech. I mean aren't we capable of building space-stations, and lunar bases? If I was running one of the more powerful countries I swear I'd invest more in space technology rather than Military technology. I know a little off topic.

Right now, like in Eve interestingly enough, corporations are investing in monetizing space - so the advancements are going to come from that. But, even the biggest corporations are a joke compared to what a rich country can invest.

As an example, my country is a rich country. We often talk about Nintendo's cash reserves being around 11 billion dollars, Microsoft cash reserves being 63 billion dollars. Norway cash reserves is currently at 700 billion dollars with no debt.

It's clear that a nation can invest much more into space technology than a privately funded corporation. So if nation states had invested in space technology we'd prolly be much further along.
