Sony Japan Studio’s Freedom Wars was showcased extensively at Taipei Game Show, and Producer Junichi Yoshizawa is brimming with enthusiasm about the upcoming game, that will hit the Japanese shelves this summer.

Yoshizawa-san tweeted today that Sony’s aims for the new post-apocalyptic IP are actually quite ambitious while responding to a fan that sent him “good luck” message for the game:

Thank you for your hope in Freedom Wars! Yes! As for the title, we aim to sell a million copies. It’s worked on with the desire to grow the series. Also, I don’t think a “boom” is measured only with numbers.

As the same fan mentioned that he’s a bit worried about sales, but he has great expectations for the series, Yoshizawa-san continued:

Thank you very much for your reply! It has a much larger scale because it’s a title for which we aim to achieve a “boom.” While we’ll be aware of the situation of sales, let’s enjoy it to the fullest, because it’s a game!

Personally, I have high hopes in Freedom Wars as well. The art direction is lovely and the storyline behind it is very intriguing. Hopefully it’ll do well enough for Sony to really turn it into a series. In the meanwhile all we can do is to wait for a localization announcement.

I don't think any Monster Hunter clone ever made it close to 1m. This seems a little absurd.

I suppose you could call it a God Eater clone.  Which in itself is a clone of M____r H____r (fill in blanks as appropriate).

I understand what you mean, but it's quite obvious which market Sony are going after with games like this.

lol jokes aside, Sony would have to market the crap outta this, and hope that it reviews well. Also it's coming to the west so that should help them meet there target although I would have thought SS would have had a better chance of hitting 1 million and that title didn't even come close.

It's about about as much of a clone of MH as Mortal Kombat is a clone of Street Fighter (and no, it's not a clone of Street Fighter if you're really this stupid).

The hunting genre has become just that, its own genre. The only game within that's even remotely close to a MH clone is Toukiden.

Anyways, back on topic, holy shit this guy is insane. They're going to be lucky if it even hits 300k. Hell, GE2, the second or 3rd biggest game in the genre now that Phantasy Star gone f2p, would be incredibly lucky to hit a million.

Well, yeah, it is a God Eater clone. I've never played it before, seems like a good though. It's made by the same guys too.
