Forums - Nintendo - Drop your Nintendo Direct expectations for January 2014

If Nintendo has a Nintendo Direct in January which I now see as doubtfull we will not hear about any new Wii U games.  The ND in December gave us details about all of the Wii U 2014 lineup except maybe 2 games they will publish this year.

A Nintendo Direct in February will focus on Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and a release date for Mario Kart 8.  March-April will be pretty dead release wise.

As I said in another post:

Something went side ways at Nintendo back in 2011

Nintendo only published 7 home console games that year and really only produced 6 of those games.

In 2012 Nintendo published 11 games for home consoles but only created 6 in house.

In 2013 Nintendo published 12 console games but only created 7 in house.

Nintendo can not carry an entire console with so little output from it's developers. The Wii U was already dead back in 2011. Nintendo didn't put the effort into beefing up it's internal workforce when it needed to.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I still feel like it's coming. The results for the quarter aren't going to look the best so combining it with announcements makes sense.

I think you mean the Wii but it wasn't/isn't completely dead. Unless you mean direct support from Nintendo, then pretty much.

Donkey Kong (produced in house)

Mario Kart (produced in house)

Xenogame (produced in house)

Bayonetta (made by Platinum)

Hyrule Warriors (made by Koei)

Smash Bros (made by Bamco)

6 games, 3 in house, 3 externally developed. So what you're saying is that Nintendo has only revealed half of its 2014 Wii U lineup.

No the games in previous years weren't fully in house either.  Same setup as Smash Bros and Hyrule Warriors.

Doesn't leave for a lot of new games to announce for this year.  What we know about already is what we're going to get plus 1 or 2 other games.  Not enough to make a difference.

No I meant the Wii U was a dead duck on arrival due to Nintendo not supporting the Wii at the end of it's life properly and the fact that they didn't beef up their studio's to get games out in 2012/2013 for the Wii U (which they needed to do in 2011)

Mario Sport Mix and Fortune Street are developed at Square and the olympic games are developed by Sega. Mystery Case Files was developed by Big Fish and Sanzaru Games

FE x SMT seems to be led by Atlus's SMT Team over Intelligent Systems

Yes if you look at the listing of games released by Nintendo between 2011 to 2013 the amount they developed in house is even smaller then I claimed in my original post.  Which still shows they have nothing else to show for this year.

Do you have a source showing that Warriors or Smash have any Nintendo devs involved? As far as I'm aware, they're entirely external projects. Good-Feel is not owned by Nintendo, so that's not in-house. Fire Emblem development is shared between Intelligent Systems and Atlus, so it's only partly in-house. And neither of those games are confirmed for 2013.

Anyway you say they have little more to announce for this year, when they have announced only six (or eight) games, yet released twelve last year.

All I want to see are new screens or a trailer for X and I will be happy
