I didn't really say that he was wrong. I simply said he is an irrelevant individual.... and he is.

I agree with the retail part of his comments. But not the fad part. Casual gamers or anyone else isn't going to buy a new product every time a new one launches. Wii-Fit is more of an app. The casual crowd is the hardest group to market to.

They are but if you simplify things, they aren't. Most games today aren't simplified. The Wii made it simple so everyone could enjoy it and thats why it sold like gangbusters. The problem with the Wii is that it went so casual that it alienated the core gamers who might have been interested in the Wii.

I completely agree with what your saying. As for being a fad, his analogy doesn't work, all consoles would have to be a fad. In decline? That's a different argument since tech is always changing now that you can game on pretty much anything with a screen, there's a lot more choices now.

Technically a fad is a widely popular device or item that quickly loses popularity after its limited value is consumed and the hype fades from the consumer because of lack of utlity. The Wii was that. The difference is the Wii's time of popularity truly lasted about four years. Fads usually fade out after like three years or less. The reason the Wii's lasted so long was backed up demand.

I can't speak for every Wii owner. But it if it's a fad, nobody would be using it. Everyone I know still enjoys their Wii. I'm sure millions still are. I wouldn't say its lost its popularity. Sure sales have dried up. But that happens to all products.

What this guy says is pretty accurate. Couldve been nicer about it though...
Wait are there really people here saying the Wii wasnt a fad? lol

Back in the day, it was established fact that the Wii was not a fad. Scorn was heaped upon those who believed so.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Most people who aren't gamers who played the Wii U dropped it after Wii Sports and Wii fit successors died out. It just collected dust over time. People used to watch the most media on the Wii in the beginning but the 360 and PS3 started beating it out in utility. Once the Kinect came out and the casuals jumped ship to that selling over thirty million between the Kinect and the Move, I mean...now we know. Kinect made gaming even simpler than the Wii as well.

Do you just come to the forums to be pissy about any negative Nintendo thread? I've never seen you post anywhere else.

He is half correct. Wii was selling strong as long as games were being pumped out, diluting the fad myth (fads don't last that long, either), but Nintendo massively fucked up the Wii U, and no pricecut is going to put it anywhere close to the PS4 or XBO. Even if it could - Nintendo wouldn't cut it.

Out of all the 25 or so  posts that I made today that was the only one that was posted in a " negative Nintendo thread". Maybe you should look at my post history before making such an ignorant statement.

Way to take it literally. Also, if I did that instead of commenting on what always sticks out, I'd be stuck here for days.

Fact is PS2 to PS3 drop is similar in userbase to Wii  to WiiU

90m down from 150m is around 2 thirds.   The WiiU is not seling 60m consoles which you are suggesting.

Anyway, everything in OP is true.  Butthurt by some people not going to change this and nor is bringing up the Vita or any other console.

PS2 to PS3 70M users lost

Wii to WiiU 80M users lost (suposing WiiU only sell 25M which is just an assumption)

Do i have to give you the dictionary definition of similar dude....dont let the bias blind you.

Conveniently ignoring the XBox 360 cannibalising its sales. Way to go

And the PS4 and One selling at record levels, and Sony in particular being back in top form have hurt the Wii U significantly.  Even before they came out, most people wanted to wait for them instead of buy a Wii U.  So let's not act like the Wii U and PS3 didn't both have their fair share of problems resulting in the drop from the prior generation.  The only difference is that the Wii U isn't going to (well very unlikely) have a comeback like the PS3 due to third party support and other factors.

Just because a console sells more, doesnt make it the clear winner. For example, Wii sold 100m, but is it even still being supported today? Tell me, what games, other than Zelda, Xenoblade, Pandoras Tower, and The Last story, were there to play in the last 2 years of the system? Sure the PS3 and 360 sold less, but great games are STILL coming out for the systems, so in the end, who really won? And some of you guys saying that if the Wii U wasnt so expensive it would sell just as well? Its only 50$ more...
