Forums - Gaming - Skyrim earned hundreds of ‘Game of the Year’ awards and sold over 20 million copies

Saw this over on NeoGaf:

The previous chapter in this franchise was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim® which was released in November 2011 and enjoyed worldwide critical and commercial success. As the sequel to the 2002 Role-Playing Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind®, and the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion®, Skyrim earned hundreds of ‘Game of the Year’ awards and sold over 20 million copies.

How many of those sales were at discount prices? Steam had it for as low as $7.50 recently.

Games just don't keep their value for very long any more.

Does it matter? I think its obvious that Skyrim is by far the biggest RPG success story of the 7th gen.

The game took the TES series from good seller, to a monster IP.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Releasing that game in as poor condition as it was is definitely not a success story. Sure for financials, but I will never forget, and Bethesda will never recieve a $60 purchase from me again.

Wonder if it's the nr1 game that wasn't finished by the buyers...

Considering they shipped over 10 million in the first month of sales and sales continued quite strong for some time after that you would have to put the majority of sales at or near retail price. By the time steam gets prices that low they are really just chasing a few extra dollars at the very tail end of sales. It was also mid last year that they hit 20 million.

The greatest example of how developers are getting praised for unfinished glitchy copy & paste games.
I gave up on the broken gameplay and stuck it on easy just for the sake of the story which wasnt awesome either.

Not my favorite in the series (Morrowind is), but still a goodt game. Definitely a step in the right direction coming from Oblivion which I found boring.
