Forums - Sales - Final Fantasy XIII series sold over 10 million games, do they deserve it?

7 million suckers that bought FFXIII is more like it (me included).

Me too, and my friend. Crap, we even bought to limited edition strategy guides to go with it. We still laugh about it to this day.

I find it a bit sad. What you've just listed are the FF games of the 7th gen. Just think about it.

I miss Final Fantasy.

Hmm, pie.

No, definitely not. They weren't that far off from what made Final Fantasy good in the first place with XIII, but it seems they totally screwed up with XIII-2 and Lightning Returns doesn't seem any better. They deviated so much further away from what made Final Fantasy good, they lost their vision and basically started fulfilling fan wishes without realizing what they actually needed to do. Fulfilling fan wishes is good but when so big portion of game development is based on it, it's NOT good.

No, selling on name alone ff13 was terrible. Way better rpg's around, series needs an overhaul.

Please. You mind naming me a few on the PS3 platform that are better than the FFXIII trilogy.

Ni no Kuni. Well, I haven't played XIII-2 because judging by the demo, it seemed worse than XIII and its story has been sounding pretty retarded. Not getting Lightning Returns before finishing XIII-2, so yeah. Either way, I loved XIII (even though I can definitely see the flaws it has) yet I still think Ni no Kuni is much better. I could probably name many more games if I played more on consoles, but by the looks of it, Demon's Souls/Dark Souls are better, and probably some other games too. Of course if we don't limit ourselves to JRPGs, FFXIII drops right off. It just can't compete with western RPGs, many of them are so much better.

FF XIII was good for JRPG beginners. I liked the graphics.

FFXIII I'm soooooooo glad I purchased this game! BEST RPG IN YEARS!

Many of those games were sold because the legacy Final Fantasy has.  They deserve it and I really liked playing Final Fantasy  XIII on PS3.

Don't copy random editorials.

Not at all. While I have high hopes that Lightning Returns will be good because of how great the gameplay looks, the games that sold 10 million prior to prior to its release, FInal Fantasy 13 and 13-2, are easily some of the least enjoyable RPGs I've ever played.

they deserve all sales for the first xiii cause they did a excellent job at dressing up that automated shallow linear boring and heart wrenching game so kudous for them on selling that nonsense to ff fans (myself included) . but they dnt deserve any of the sales of xiii-2/3 fool me once but never again .

No imo... I don't think FFXIII was the FF we all wanted to have in the 7th generation... Its Auto-Battle, mostly terrible characters (Looking at you Snow) as well as no real party system (in the sense where you can control more than one person during battle) and many other reasons, I don't think it deserves that many units at all...

Just out of curiosity, do you like Kingdom Hearts? It's a beloved series but does everyone know that you can only control one character in battle? It would be nice if you elaborate as to why the game is bad including how much of it you did play.

On topic, yeah it deserves the sales. FFXIII-2 wasn't as good and it sold lower which was deserved as well.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I'm torn. On pure faults XIII is probably the most disappointing AAA games of the last generation. It has atrocious level design, the combat is poorly thought out, the script has some good ideas, but is poorly executed precisely when it needs to be at its best.

The only two things really in XIII's favor are that it looks pretty and that it tried hard. REALLY hard.

I actually did kinda like XIII-2. The enemy design was still lackluster, but the script and level design were tolerable at worst, if a bit annoying.

And then there's Lightning Returns. I know I shouldn't judge based on the demo, but this looks to be a TERRIBLE game. For starters, who thought Light WALKING in a fight was a good idea?

I have to say NO. I do kinda like the games as bargain-bin fodder and they do have some good ideas...but they aren't actually that good.
