I would have gotten you something a little more up to date but I couldnt really find anything too quick. I wasnt going to search too long.

Yea I am aware of this, which is why I am skeptical about the TLOU costing only $20m.

The development and lead time between Uncharted 1 and 2 was 1 year and 10 months. From Uncharted 2 to TLOU was 3 years and 8 months.

Even accounting for their not being a a full team working  at all the time on the project initially, budget would definitely be higher when the development period is more than doubled.

ot really because if the team split in two then the costs would be halved for the game. Being as it tuk wice the time to to mak as the other games i would assume the costs would be around the same?

I dont understand what would make uncharted 2 20 million whilst the last of us would cost sigificatly more. If anything it would be cheaper because of reusing assets from the uncharted games. Naughty dog would not have split ionto two teams if it would increase dev costs.

I know i am just speculating but my scenario seems more likely than others i could imagine. If i am missing somthing i would like your imput. Excuse the grammar, i have been drinking and am using my phone to message

COD's gameplay is every bit as generic as TLOU. But both are polished and executed extremely well, the difference is -as you said- the appeal of competitive shooters vs survival (i'm not incline to feel TLOU as being a horror tbh).

I

Well deserved. Loved the game.

Naughty's number of employee wasn't stationary. When they began with Uncharted 1 they had 60-70 employees (source)

Right now they have between 200-500 employees according to Linkedin. They had to gear up to be able to handle 2 games, they certainly didn't just split the team and said 'off you go guys good luck' lol :).

Better numbers than Uncharted 3, being a brand new IP and digital day one. Congrats ND

What are you talking about? uncharted 3 has sold over 6 million.

I'm talking about ltd. If I remember correctly, U3 didn't had a digital version from the beginning, even so TLOU could top the numbers of every uncharted, or that's what I think.

Last of us won't top uncharted 3 for 1 reason alone, it's legs will get cut short due to the next generation transition.

Who know, I still think it has a chance. If it can't, at least is gonna be pretty damn close :P

It could if it had a bundle. That has certainly helped Uncahrted games sell well even 2 years after release.

TLOU uses many cliches commonly found in past survival horror games. It easily falls in that genre.

4M sales means at least $100M gross and probably $130M. Being 1st party the only shared revenue is with the retailer, so Sony sees plenty of that gross back. And with digital sales on top with no distribution costs and no revenue sharing with anyone even with only 500K sales on PSN that's probably $20M in revenue minimum.

TLOU made a profit no doubt.

Great game!

Yes my point is so does COD, it's just in a genre that is more popular with more pick-up and play appeal.
