Forums - PC - Valve removes touchscreen from Steam Controller, replaces it with regular buttons

It looks stupid now. Don't get me wrong; I never liked the whole touchscreen idea since I don't believe that touch controls are very gaming friendly, but the whole controller looks plain ridiculous now.

With little modification, this still fits the old controller, bravo.

On the other hand, they butchered the whole idea of steam machines, which is a much bigger issue than this.

That controller would have been unattractive even in 1997.

I thought the buttons (y,x,b,a) at the edges of the circular touchpads was a novel idea, but I guess they didn't work well in practice..

Yeah plus it had touchscreen buttons between those.

The clickable touchscreen seemed like a neat idea too, though I don't think it made it to any of the physical prototypes.

Now with the new prototype they just added more physical buttons that the screen was meant to replace in the first place.

I guess going with more traditional controller designs is more practical but it's slowly losing some of it's more distiguishing factors.
