Wat games did the SNES have in the first year, for instance? Even it's second? The SNES was weak in terms of 1st party games for much of its lifespan, up until its last 2 years. |
the hell? Super Mario World and its sequel. the first Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid. DK. not to mention this would be the LAST Ninty console to have great 3rd party support. So SNES steadily got a constant stream of games coming in. 3rd party or not doesnt matter.
you didnt explain the WIi U inquiry.

NES was sold for 10 years on the market. SNES suffered from what we call competition. Look at NIntendo's handhelds. They are far more balanced than Nintendo's consoles and it shows. |
So Ninty sucks at competition unless they have some kind of hook?
It depends on which aggressive. Nintendo needs to push their games and advertise to the public. No, I don't mean $500m Microsoft-style marketing campaigns, but at least run some commercials for your new releases.
The aggressive push in the N64 era to expand their diversity in gaming with stuff like 1080 Snowboarding, Goldeneye, Wave Race, Perfect Dark, etc. is very welcome though.
The kind of aggressive behavior they don't need anymore is putting a stranglehold on 3rd-parties and enforcing asinine restrictions on their content. They can't afford to behave that way when there are many competitors looking to steal away support.
NIntendo region locks their consoles so third parties dont have to, they have the most relaxed publlishing policy of any developer out there dont think you got to worry about that

They're increasing R&D costs and working on more games and prototyping their next gen platforms as we speak. Calm your titties |
well that would make the situation even worst, they did advertise and people still didnt buy it?
Yes that's the point. The audience has gotten smaller, NIintendo's treating things like they are with that, they got the full numbers they sold lots of Wii Fit U machines, if it makes a profit then we dont need to know the sales numbers but its down a lot
I agree with Rol that "Please Understand" is just something to try to calm the public and bring them to terms, although it doesn't obviously work anymore. Or ever, for that matter.
Just being aggressive with game releases isn't enough. Their console needs to be aggressive in that it's different enough to sway a consumers purchase while also not being too obnoxious or badly dealt with, especially in the beginning. (Wii U.)
The Wii U design isn't that bad, a bit minimalistic, but not bad.

| padib said: I also agree with him. However the point remains that the need to calm people down is testament to their lack of effectiveness. About the second paragraph, I agree. Dealing badly with a console launch is launching it with no games, first and foremost. Hardware design is a second issue, but it comes in second place behind software support, which is numero uno. |
It's not necessarily all about having a large launch collection. Having just a couple compelling games can really rocket a console in the beginning. For instance, the Wii. Wii Sports was something that no one had tried, so people bought it just for that. What enabled Wii Sports to not just be another sports game, though? The hardware. Hardware is what can completely change a game and is what everyone first sees when a console is announced, shown off, and displayed. It's what many people found cool about the Wii, the Wiimote.
However, I agree with you that Nintendo needs to be more aggressive. But more in general.
