Forums - Sales - Wii Fit U OPENING Week Sales = 4% of Wii Fits Opening (For NA)

It's barely been marketed (at least from what I've seen)

If they advertised it on HGTV and TLC and what not, the casual audience that bought it on the Wii would definitely flock to it.

It also might be low because it was free for a month to owners of the balance board.

There is a commercial out for it. And yes, the free trial deal is likely having an immediate effect, but then again, it might also convince people to buy the game.

Wii Fit U not a system seller? Preposterous! It can't even sell itself..

Wii Fit U is a tough read. With its long, free trial, and the "get a meter, get the game free forever" promos running for several months now, on top of there being literally millions upon millions of Wii balance board owners out there, this game can easily sell completely off the radar. The only people who know the real numbers on this one are Nintendo, not even retailers have an accurate gauge on it.

As someone mentioned before, the Wii Fit Meter might be a way to gauge it (if someone buys the Wii Fit Meter, there's only ONE game it could POSSIBLY be for!), but unfortunately no one's tracking that except Nintendo as well...

You're probably looking at a Nintendogs like drop off

Nintendogs (DS): 24.57 million sold

Nintendogs + cats (3DS): 3.28 million sold

Except Wii Fit U will probably sell less than Nintendogs + cats because its on a system with a much lower userbase than the 3DS.

I would say its more like Brain Training. I dont see many people buying a console/dedicated handheld for learning and exercise anymore. Workout DVDs like P90X and Insanity have grown in popularity by alot in the last few years and there are tons of fitness apps on smartphones. Also now there are a bunch of childrens tablets like Leapster and Vtech that have learning as there main purpose. I think the market for these types of games on dedicated gaming devices are a thing of the past.

I know a lot of people who bought Wii Fit, myself included. And none of them still use it, that is if they even own it anymore. So why would anyone buy the new one just to not use that? Another example of Nintendo making assumptions based on hope rather than any sort of real speculation.

Nintendo did consumer research, there are still people who use wii fit U  500k in japan to be exact.

I'm sure there are still people that are interested, but they seemed to be counting on this game to be one of their saving graces.  It was pretty obvious that it was never going to even come close to the sales of the original.  I think Nintendo chooses to ignore the tens of millions of people who got Wiis, played them for a bit, and will never pick up a controller ever again.

I would say Nintendo fans were counting on Wiifit to be their saving grace, not Nintendo themselves. If Nintendo wanted this to be a saving grace, they would have rushed it out for the Holiday season.

We don't know the sales target Nintendo set with this title and/or the Wiifit Meter unless they released it in a financial statement somewhere.

I feel like they were probably counting on both Wii Fit and SM3DW to start really moving systems, and now they're scared that it isn't happening.  But you're right, I can't know unless we got a statement from them.

I would say they were counting more on SM3DW and ZeldaWWHD to move systems than WiifitU.

They shifted a few units to be sure but nowhere near the ridicilous amount Nintendo predicted at the start of the year.

Their is no way around it. A price cut+agressive advertising campaign are the only things that will start shifting units regularly for Nintendo.

Well.. the game is available FOR FREE on the Eshop so.... shy people would bother to buy the retail version, if they just need the cheap Wii Fit Meter?

I´m sure that this game had a lot of downloads, but how many? Impossible to know right now.

Probably with lower lifetime sales (but we can't know for sure so early), Wii U sales pattern will probably be more like PS3 than Wii: instead of a few huge system sellers (mostly 1st party), Wii U will slowly take-off as its game library will grow, with some big sellers, many decent ones, and the huge ones that will come later, as a consequence of already large enough user base... Something like current GT5 lifetime sales, or Xmas 2012 CoD. It requires competence and steadfast commitment, but it has a little advantage: gradual growth based on good and large overall SW offer doesn't rely on hype, so it can make up for horrible marketing.

Yeah, you're right.  I think it's only going to start really moving when it's at a really low price, it's got a huge stack of games, and everybody finally knows what it is.  I think a lot of people will end up picking one up, just not until later in the game.  A lot of people are hoping Smash and Marko Kart will do it, but I think it will probably hit its stride next holiday season at a $250 price point + game, and with the release of Zelda.  It stinks that the demand for it will never be very high, but unlike most people I do believe eventually the system will start being a really great value.
