as long as it stays above 40k till DK comes out its okay.

Which it won't.

And DK ain't saving nothing. It will sell well to the existing userbase but not much beyond that. The real test is Mario Kart.

DK will have a bigger impact then people are giving it credit for.   DKCR sold 6.1 million on Wii and 1.2 million on the 3DS (almost identical to Uncharted PS3/Vita numbers).   On top of that Donkey Kong has been used much less then Mario over the last decade and I wouldnt be shocked if more people are anticipating the new DKC then they did SM3DW, expecially with how well received DKCR was by everyone.   On top of that it's the only next-gen exclusive coming out in February, and has the most brand recognition out of anything being released by far that month.   Not saying it will boost it past PS4, but making up that 50k gap between the Wii U and Xbox One is pretty realistic.

For a single week, maybe yeah. I'm not denying that it will provide a (temporary) boost. I'm just saying that I don't expect it to do anything for U's baseline sales and only MK has that potential, combined with a price cut.

its not about one game, its about the mix, and dkcr is a good game in the mix.

Three PS4 games in the top 10, no Xbox One title even makes the top 20.

Software titles are way off.

What makes you say that? I'm not saying you're wrong, just wondering where your getting your evidence?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Deadrising 3 said they sold 1 million units. Look at the sales for that, not only that, Vgchartz has been known to not accurately predict software sales.

Capcom said shipped, not sold. There are plenty of copies on store shelves. I do agree that it does look undertracked. still, one game is hardly a case for saying the software is way off.

No but you can point to many, many games that are way undertracked or overtracked.

I'm not doubting that there are games that are over or undertracked. It's just that without a lot of evidence it's tough to make generalizations about the whole software section.
