The fact that MK7 isn't even 10 mil on a much better selling system tells me that it's definitely not gonna outsell MK64.

handheld mario karts dont have the same appeal as the console versions

Wait a minute, your telling me that selling over 20 million copies in it's last handheld interation doesn't count for same appeal ?!

Right ...

3DS has only 28 percent of the install base that the DS had though.   It's lineup is great but it just doesnt have the new IP's like brain age and Nintendogs's to pull in the casuals.

Do you seriously believe in that casual vs hardcore crap ?

those games are much cheaper on phones this is why the 3ds is selling less

The 3DS is selling less because it has lower quality titles compared to the DS. I don't buy phones for it's mostly crappy games, I buy them for everyday utilities that I need for university and other parts of life. No such thing as hardcore and casual. In fact I find that being labelled a hardcore gamer is more insulting than being labelled a casual gamer because that means that I value alot of worthless games compared to just quality games.

No I don't think so.

brain training sold ten millions of DS's, brain training can be done on each smart phone now so no need to buy a 3ds for it

Strongly actually.  The problem though is that most people look at casual as kiddie, dancing, party, etc. games, when they really are just games that alot of people buy consoles to play, and then proceed to only buy a couple of games afterwards.    Hardcore are the gamers that just buy a ton of games.  3DS has an attach rate of 2.94 games,  I bought 3 games on the 1st day.   If you are on VGC, you are hardcore.  Everyone on here has bought more then 4 - 5 games for whatever consoles they own.  That being said those casuals 3 - 5 games they buy after they get the console is where the massive money is at.

NES - SMB 1,2,3 sold 65+ million.  Duck Hunt sold 28 million. Those 2 moved the majority of the 65 million consoles.

SNES - SMW sold 20+ million, Street Fighter sold 15+ million, DKC 1,2,3 sold 18+ Million.   Console sales went down to 48 million.

N64 - Everything Shifted to 3D (Turn off to alot of 2D DK/Mario fans),  console sold 32 m.

Gamecube - Entire console based arround catering to the hardcore (Pikmin,Metroid Prime,Custom Robo,List goes on and on.) 22 million.

Wii - Cater heavily to the casuals.  100 m. console sales,  350 m. 1st party software sales.

Wii U - Cater to the hardcores again (W101,ZombiU,Pikmin 3)  horrible sales.

PS1 - Carried by Crash Bandicoot, Gran Turismo (1st real racing sim), Spyro,Wrestling Games,Tekken...Final Fantasy got hot.

It holds true for every console ever made.
