Forums - Microsoft - [Youtube] 3$ CPM for saying good stuff about Xbox One

Tagged games:

As long as the tag "XB1M13" is visible and you don't have to search for it, so you know this may not be the view of the youtuber it's simply an paid add, it's fine. Not that it doesn't smell of desperation, cause it does, but it's smart, cause the casual viewer who may disregard and keep an eye on industry journalism, may not do the same towards a "impartial" youtuber who is just a direct "gamer" like the viewer himself.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Pretty good marketing from M$, but the hard critiscism from youtuber may bomb it tough. French youtubers are already ranting on this one.

Not just French youtubers but the french video games site too

I'm not for paid product integration, I remember when youtubers were paid with just ads before the videos without having to modify their content.

But yes, it's smart, but existed for the last 4 years already on youtube (at least)

MS is in a sorry state if they have to resort to shit like this.

Perhaps they should give you 3 dollars and you might think differently? :D at least maybe turn that comment into a positive one?

Honestly forum goers getting paid like that on a big scale feels like the next natural step for marketing like this.

It may be a good way of revenue for a lot of MS fanboys who do it now for free hell depending on the stake per post, maybe I'll find a few more kinder words towards the Xbon...excuse me THE ONE

$3 for every thousand views with a view max of 1.25 million views for the campaign...just $3,750 allocated for the entire ad campaign. Rather weak actually. If 100 YouTube accounts agree to this and they average out evenly among page views, they'd get just $37.50 each for almost 4 weeks of traffic.

aye considering the potential backlash this could have of people like myself above saying this basically would raise doubt over any positive comments about X1 games on youtube as to possibly being paid advertisments... this clearly isn't a method of advertising they were willing to put a lot of money and faith into.

On the upside tho, if the video which is a cool lets play or someone talking about some great new game on the system and they don't have that tag then you know it's legit praise so that is good at least, but there will be groups which now paint all positive X1 videos as being propaganda.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I can understand it, product integration is pretty vicious. It's modifying our favourite youtubers' videos content, and it's not like advertising before the video, where you know it's a paid ad.

It's about making you think the youtuber wants to talk about xbox one, whereas he just want to pay his rent.

Definitely. MS are getting an amazing deal out of this.

The developers and PR people involved will have earned more than $3,750.

As much as I would like to rage about this and call MS names this is pretty legit. All they are doing is paying people to advertise for them. It might make it hard for people to differentiate between advertisement and real opinions but that line doesn't exist anymore anyway.

I don't have a problem with this, because they're not stopping you commenting on the game or the platform how you want.

Youtubers seems to thing you have to say only good stuff tough. If that's not the case that's pretty good, but expensive for MS

no, this is only for the first 1.25 million views (of all videos that participate together), so they only spent $3750 on this promotion

So what's the big deal here? Do the Youtubers have to talk about the X1 in their videos or do they just need to mention that they're playing a game on it?

To me it looks like it's the second and I don't know what the problem about that is, they'd just have to say something like "today we're playing xxx on the X1" and could then normally continue with their commentary. I don't see why MS would pay for that though, since youtubers that play on X1 will most likely mention it during their videos anyway, but I guess this sum is really just peanuts for them.
