I wouldn't shed a tear if Iwata went, he's proven his incompetence time and again; what scares me is that his replacement might be some fuckhead who whores out Nintendo's games on smartphones and destroys their value and hardware business.

so would you care if this guy actually significantly improves Ninty's sales

If he did proper job of managing the company, I'd be pleased. I don't want some prick who'll give in to the "put your content on smartphones" morons.

thats not what i asked. Im asking if that strategy work and actually made them a profit and got them out of this rut, would you care? Lets not act like its impossible for it too work.

I think they're gonna have to release MK8 in March now

They're going to need a MK8 sized title like for every month starting like yesterday at this rate.

Honestly if they couldn't come close to sniffing a profit this year with Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing (Western release), Super Mario 3D World, Zelda: LBW, Monster Hunter 4, 2DS release, Pikmin 3, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Wii Sports Club ... they probably are going to lose money again next year too.

3DS looks like it's already peaked sales wise and Wii U is a disaster that's going to require another $50 price drop at least ... which will probably mean they have to incur more losses.

MK8 would be lucky to break 5 million at this rate.

I think MK8 will do fine though its sales will be much closer to Mario Kart on GameCube than the Wii one, but I think Smash Bros. is going to stun some people with it's relative non-impact. I just don't sense the same frenzied hype around this one as the build up to the Wii one (remember when people went nuts over the Solid Snake trailer?), it just seems like "oh ... another Smash Brothers game". It doesn't even look that great graphically to be honest, and I think it being on 3DS also is going to dilute its impact (just NSMBU/NSMB2 did).

THIS. the hype just isnt their for this Smash. I dont know what it is, every announcement for Brawl was something, especially Sonic and Snake, Mega Man didnt generate anywhere near the hype and that is probably the more shocking roster reveal (unless something else comes across).  Melee had more hype

(Reads thread title)

Geez......that is a pretty big reversal.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Perhaps if Smash was demod onstage with mega man and Wii Fit trainer at E3. But that's too mainstream for Iwata and co. Relying so heavily on Directs isn't doing them any favours either.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Iwata is decent as a company president. The problem lies between the communication between Nintendo Japan, NoA, and NoE. NoA and NoE need better marketing strategies to sell better. Power is not a huge factor, but games can make all the difference. When big releases such as DKCTF, Mario Kart 8, SSBU, Bayonetta 2, X, and Hyrule Warriors, major marketing will be needed to maximize sales and profits. 3rd party games are a lost cause at this point. I doubt even with a large install base they'll still release Grade C ports on the Wii U. It's up to Nintendo alone to pick up the pace and possibly invest in some development studios to support themselves well in software in Wii U and 3DS. With better communication, better marketing, and more development studios, Nintendo can release more games within the same period of time. It may have be costly to do all this, but in the mid-long term, they'll make great profits and a better reputation with investors over time.

yeah i never really got the hype for the directs. The people who are watching those are ALREADY Ninty fans and sold on the consoles and games. Really whats so different from directs that Sony, MS and whoever dont do on game informer, their own magazines, IGN, gametrailers, etc.? This cloak and dagger nonsesne they do needs to stop. its not a good look when your competition and other game publishers are announcing games damn near every month and you are hiding your crap like a child hides porn.

People were putting a bit too much hope into 3DS, i know I did. Was sure the 2ds was going to do something more but alas. I think the whole concept has kind of sailed off.

Why do people still clamor to MK8 and Smash? It's so naive, those titles will not miraculously resurrect this dead console. It's done.

Moderated,

-Mr Khan

wow they miscalculated by $766m.

Guess it should also be pretty clear that WiiU won't reach last (fiscal) year's numbers.
Also 3DS targets are rather low as well.
