to me nintendo is probably the main reason why videogames are still seen as kids toys (aka. something that's not worth spending time with if you reach a certain age) and not as a serious form of entertainment art (aka. something that can be worth spending some time with regardless of age) by hudge parts of our soceity. imo we'd be much further down the line in accepting videogames as an artform without nintendo.

What a load of narrow minded bullshit.

But I guess dull pretentious crap like Unfinished Swan and Gone Home are the magnum opus every single game in existence should thrive to be.

better trying and failing than not trying at all.

Are you saying Nintendo doesn't try at all? I wouldn't mind clarification on how you think a company who exists only to create video games is not trying in create the best experiences compared to the other 2 companies both of which have a gaming department but are primarily either a Software or a Hardware Company for stuff which is unrelated to Video Games. Nintendo only exists because of their games and systems.

Simple answer...Many gamers are hating on Nintendo because they want Nintendo to go third party to a system they have put their money on. I hate to tell everyone is that once Nintendo goes, so does their IP's. Simple as that. The port begging has got to stop. If you want a Nintendo game, buy a Nintendo system. Plain and simple. I respect all consoles but stop with the begging for them to come on your system of choice. They specifically have said this in the past. I will now go back to playing my Wii U and my 25 games I have for it..Voila.

You'll want to watch the last Nintendo direct from before the New year considering you are so interested in the goings on at Nintendo Iwata explains how when they're creating a new game at Nintendo if it would add anything to the gameplay to go about creating new characters on top of designing a new game rather than just using faces that people knew and loved and just imported Nintendos main IP names onto their new games.

After watching it I gained new appreciation for using the Mario /DK /Zelda /Samus /Kid Icarus /Ice Climbers /F-Zero /StarFox /Earthbound /Fire Emblem /Pokemon /Kirby /Animal Crossing etc. characters and Universes in games which they are working on since it both means they're characters who people know and love, Plus it takes time away from creating the gameplay simply to come up with a new generic "jumping on platforms man" every 2-3 years which as you say after 30 years would be quite a chore if they had been doing it all this time and quite frankly I don't think they would exist today if they had dropped mario after Super Mario Brothers.

If btw you mean that because a game has Mario in the title it is a re-creation of another game with mario in the title I'd love to see the comparisons of how similar (Dr/Paper) Mario (Kart /Paint /Golf /Tennis /s' Picross /Ball /teaches typing /Party /& Luigi rpg series) are in terms of recreating the game play from the 2d slide scrolling NES Mario game.

The Pikmin series is one of the most ingenious uses of video games as an art form.

...but you likely don´t even know what I´m talking about going by your "lol only Mario and Zelda"

I bet you are just like all those other pigs out there who secretly (or not so secretly) want to play Nintendo games on their PlayStation. Thankfully I am not like that.

Shame. I was about to invite you in the group hug currently consisting of only myself.

There is something I always refer to as the Nintendo effect. This is where Nintendo gets hounded for doing something not nearly as bad as somebody else, but they become the poster child in some people's eyes. For example, it's okay for Activision to release a yearly Call of Duty game or Ubisoft to release a yearly Assassins Creed game, but it's so wrong for Nintendo to release ONE MARIO KART AND ONE SMASH BROS. GAME PER CONSOLE GENERATION. It's so wrong for Nintendo to create a great Mario game that's GOTY in the eyes of many, but it's perfectly fine for Sony to create a new IP that's mediocre. It's so wrong for Nintendo to use cartoony graphics in their games, yet it's okay for other companies to use boring mediocre graphics that look the same as everyone else's game to the point where they accidentally use screenshots from a competitor's FPS game.

I'm not saying Nintendo is perfect. They're far from it as we have sen today, but if there's one company that I'm not getting sick of, it's Nintendo. Also, unlike EA or some other companies out there, at least Nintendo releases a game AFTER it's been finished. Remember that next time you're bitching about game delays.
