Forums - Gaming - Is Metal Gear Zeroes an Important Release? Day One DLC, Micro-Transactions, and More

Xbox live vs psn comparison was not needed or in any way relevant, fail to see why you added it other than to take a random pot shot at psn.

As for prequels, GT5 prologue offered nothing not found in the final game and they made that abundantly clear just as they did with GT4 plologue on the PS2 and GT Tokyo Geneva, releasing phantom pain separately is no different to releasing map packs for cod/bf4 separately, as long as the content is worth the money people will buy it.
A huge difference here being phantom pain will be stand alone so people do not need to buy mgz in order to play it, as such I don't really see cause for argument.

One could argue that buying a game from a series having not played the previous games "doesnt give you the full experience but I doubt you would moan about the latest halo not having 1,2,3,4 and 5 on the disk or having to pay $120 or so more for the full experience.

Entitlement these days.

DLC and microtransactions for a glorified demo. I am going to wait. Then I will get a proper complete game.

Nah, nothing like that man.  I was using them as references as things that started off as something small and then became popularized over-time.  Could we see things like this and GT Prologue in the future if this game becomes successful was my question.

MGS doesnt have Micro-transactions and Day one dlc though, no worries :)

I used it for to show that some things copy eachother and make each other better.  Just as XBL has made PSN better, PSN has made XBL better.  That isnt a pot shot at all.

And i didnt mention halo.  Not sure why you would mention it.  All is good though.  If you dont agree that is fine, just tell me, no reason to go on the offensive though :)

Day 1 DLC, Microtransactions, it's all shit for the industry and is only making it worse. This glorified prequel is no better than those practices.

I really like the series and I will probably end up getting it. I would guess Konami is doing this as Metal Gear Solid is a big money maker for them. I wonder what they will do once Metal Gear Solid is over for good...

Yeah ill for sure be getting it still since i do love MGS :D  But yeah i would have liked to seen it release with the full game.

And hmm, you know i havent really thought about that.  I havent played very many konami games.  I like Kojima a lot but i dont even think ive played any of his games outside of MGS.

Because halo is an ongoing story? And as I said, you're not getting the full experience playing just one.

Also, just so you know, Xbox live is very much Microsoft's answer to the GameSpy service of old on PC, a subscription based service that allowed multiplayer across games with friends lists, unified ID, premium game servers and more.

These are all basic elements of an online service so neither Microsoft nor Sony were directly copying, they were simply offering a service in the only way you can.

You don't see people saying Samsung copied Nokia because they used a screen and buttons on their phone because these are basic, expected elements, most of the online functionality of consoles are basic elements too.

You'll find also that trophies were a result of constant public demand for something similar to achievements, and while its very similar they at least tried to give it its own uniqueness.

Dlc and micro transactions are only recent things because of the expanding technology, as we go forward the way we do things is bound to change along with it.

Im not entirely sure why youre being defensive about this.  Im sure MSFT got the idea somewhere and then put it on home consoles.  Sony then followed and made their own network and added trophies.  Later on XBL and PSN improved over the years.  Microsoft would get an idea from sony and vice versa.  That is how not only the gaming industry works, but the world.  We get ideas from places and then implement them in our own ways, for better or worst.  Competition drives them to make eachother better.  Just as PS Now was just announced, MSFT has a similar service which im sure takes ideas from Sony.

Or we could use WiiMote to PS Move

PS Eye to Kinect

Wii Sports to Sports champions and Kinect Sports

killswitch to Gears of War

Tomb Raider to Uncharted

Super Mario 64 to 3D Platformers

This list goes on and on.  All feautres you see today in any game was copied from another game and implemented in their own.  Yes sometimes you get brand new features but im sure that game got some of those features from another game.

Everything starts somewhere and it isnt important who copies who.  What is important is if theyre good.  None of this is the topic.  It was an example out of 100s i could have used to show why copying competition can make each other better.

On the other hand copying something that was successful isnt always better for the gamers, as example day one dlc.

Halo 1,2,3,4,5 were meant as different games created in different years(several years apart).  MGS Zeroes and phantom pain are being made in the same year and is even explained by the creator, hideo kojima as an "introduction".

The only reason i replied is to explain it wasnt a pot shot in anyway as i explained they make each other better.

You act as if i slapped sony and psn in the face when i never said anything bad about them.  In fact it is the opposite.

They don't even do Castlevania anymore. The last time I checked MGS 4 was a financial success for Konami but nowadays it's their only big franchise. I guess they will always have Yu Gi Oh! to drive their company forward.

Who's being defensive? I'm merely discussing the topic, if you don't want people to discuss the topic don't make the topics to begin with.

If anything you're being too sensitive because someone disagrees with you.

Will not support this Metal Gear Solid. Maybe when it hits the bargain bin at $5

Good move mate. I will wait till the complete version. MGS Ground zeroes and phantom pain in a disk.
