Forums - Sales - Uncharted is now a bigger IP Than Zelda

I love Uncharted but this is stupid, Zelda will still be going long after Naughty Dog has moved on from Uncharted.

Which is actually good and bad for both. Cool that Zelda keeps going, but its also cool that Naughty Dog keep looking to new IPs

Well Uncharted still has to pass the test of time so I don't know if it's the bigger franchise. Zelda is almost 30 years old right? I think it's still an unfair comparision.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Absolute bollocks.

The Uncharted series' huge success is mainly due to mass bundling.

The games lifetime sales would've been: UC1 ~4m, UC2 ~5.5m and UC3 ~5m without all the mass bundling.

God of War is more comparable to Zelda, at least God of War III could sell well over 6 million without mass bundling. Hell, even The Last of Us blew all the Uncharted games sales away with a June release and no mass bundling until black friday/holidays.

ZELDA SALES UNCHARTED SALES
Wind Waker 4.6m Uncharted: 1 4.7m
Twilight Princess 8.5m Uncharted: 2 6.3m
Skyward Sword 3.7m Uncharted: 3 6.3m
ALBW 1.74m* Uncharted: GA
1.12m
Total/Average: 18.54m/4.635m Total/Average: 18.42m/4.606m

Look at MY cherrypicking ;)

Obviously, Zelda still has it!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

A couple things that arent too great about this comparison:
a. Using a remake for Zelda
b. treating home console+handheld games as one category (both series do worse on handhelds but Zelda has more so that drags down the average. If you split them up, Zelda is higher on both fronts)
c. Not including the GC version of TP. I totally get why you did this but it still skews the data. Thats an extra 1M+ in sales for TP that were cut off due to the split userbase.

Well, obviously I have a rooting interest in this debate

But, seriously, you need to factor in other criteria, not just sales figures. I'd argue Zelda remains the more relevant franchise, the more discussed franchise, the more acclaimed franchise, and the more beloved franchise.

Sales data doesn't tell the whole story. Take Resident Evil 6 for example. It sold 4.4 million copies, according to our beloved site. Does that figure explain the negative reaction from fans and critics? Does it explain the loss of prestige for the series?

Maybe the question that could decide this debate is as follows: as a publisher or hardware manufacturer, would you rather own the rights to Zelda or Uncharted going forward?

Just my two cents. Both series deserve the love and attention they receive.

OT: congrats 007 on almost 20,000 points!

It would be more fair if you looked at Zelda 1, Zelda 2, A Link to the Past, and Links Awakening. Since those were the first four games.

The thread is garbage, I can't believe anyone is giving it a serious response. WW, TP and SS average more than Uncharted 1, 2 and 3.

If you want to make a thread like this to annoy Zelda fans and make yourself feel good, just compare SS vs Uncharted 3. At least there your numbers wouldn't have to contain errors or use games that were remakes and/or handhelds.

Everyone is jumping all over the OP...

I think they're about equal honestly. Zelda has fallen a bit recently & Uncharted is now a big IP for Sony. They both have a similar selling ability IMO.

I never got into either so I can't judge their quality.
