Honestly Nintendo could release a FPS that is better than cod in every way, but since its from Nintendo most "dude bro" gamers would not take it seriously.  I think Nintendo should stick to what they know and make Metroid Prime 4, not a military FPS.  If your talking about third person on rails games like Kid Icarus then I think Nintendo should just make another Star Fox.

It coming from nintendo has nothing do with gamers dismissing it.  The problem is nintendo hasnt built an audience on their systems for these types of games.  If nintendo wants to attract fps fans to their system they need to build an audience for it and one game wont do it.  The problem is nintendo makes family oriented games, while they are good games, they arent likely to have a lot of crossover with an fps gamer.  Nintendo would have to alter their entire sleight of first party games if they wanted to start building that audience, which would then cost them their core audience.

As far as I know games like X aren't very family oriented, and Nintendo making an FPS wouldn't somehow disrupt their genes, GoldenEye and Perfect Dark were successes in the n64 days, an FPS by Nintendo or even a third party exclusive FPS could potentially do well.

Obviously nintendo was able to capture that audience in the n64 days, heck they built that audience on consoles, but that was almost 20 years ago.  Nintendo doesnt publish games like that anymore.  Also x may not be family oriented, but it also isnt really a mainstream title either, its more of nich title.

I agree that fps title by nintendo could do well, but it cant be a one and done approach, nor can it be a singular franchise.  They need to build an audience for that type of game on their system, which they have failed to do.  It would also be monumentally difficult without proper third party support, which is why nintendo probably wont do it, at least not with the wii u.

I think Metroid Prime is already the perfect example of this. They took the genre and juiced it up with atmosphere, exploration and puzzle-solving. It was the perfect experience in my eyes. So I guess my answer is, I think (and hope) it would just be more Metroid Prime.

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

Metroid. Prime. Online. Multiplayer. It could be the Wii U's Destiny.

Add sci-fi elements and quirkiness and it'd awesome.

The Metroid Prime series is over and I'd like it to stay that way, and like I said, Metroid Preme is first person adventure, not shooter.

If Nintendo were wary of being associated with an FPS, all they would need do is market it under a different label. I've long thought they should establish another brand for games that don't fall into the traditional universe, anyway. Kind of the way Disney separates the Disney brand from mature titles with Miramax.

An FPS game certainly does not have to be a military shooter; I love FPS but I don't play any of the military titles. There is tons of room for creativity in the genre and it would be awesome to see someone explore it. Even though CoD and Battlefield have legions of fans, the success of games like Fallout 3, Borderlands, Far Cry, and BioShock prove that it's not all about playing soldier or only about competitive multi-player.

It's also easy enough to take killing other humans out of the equation. Aliens, robots, vampires, they all serve well as fodder.

I think a unique art-style would work well for a new IP, the way it did for Borderlands, or a really imaginative world, like BioShock. Both methods have proven effective at gaining attention in a market-place where generic looking titles like Rage go to die.

Nintendo needs some diversity if they want to attract new customers and a flag-ship FPS would not be a bad direction at all.

If Nintendo release a FPS on Wii U that sell ~200-400k, I'm pretty sure even CoD will sell more in the future. Of course, Nintendo needs to keep releasing this king of games to build audience.

I wanna see Nintendo create both an FPS game and MOBA game with Nintendo characters.

Not sure how a Nintendo FPS would be.. but the MOBA could be something similar to Awesomenauts.

it would be too mature for most people....
