1.) More people in China than USA, Europe, and Japan combined.

2.) The cost of living in a city in China is like the cost of living in Manhattan, Paris or London. While most of the Chinese population are poor there are still tens of million who are very wealthy.

3.) Economoy is at a steady growth. The pace of growth may be declining but China should be able to hold a 5% growth in GDP for many years to come.

4.) Most people did not want to import before because the government is very strict and controlling.

5.) chinese are not afraid to splurge on electronics. More people in China own cell phones than there are people in the USA and Europe combined.

6.) Sony and Nintendo may struggle because they are Japanese companies but Microsoft may be able to sell millions of consoles in years to come in China.

7.) Chinese may favor western games more than Japanese players meaning western games might appeal and persuade Chinese gamers to buy a console.

If countries like Brazil, Poland, Italy, Spain etc. can sell million of consoles China should easily eclipse them. I think Microsoft particularly can even the score with Sony. Sony has Japan but I think Microsoft can take China by the same percentage marketshare.

What is secret about it?

It is pretty well understood that China is a (currently) under-developed market with growth potential.

Whether game companies are capable of fleshing that out....

Unless consoles are dirt cheap there I just don't see any of them having a big influence. 

Also PC gaming (MMOs and MOBAs mostly) practically take the whole Chinese gaming market, it would be almost impossible to compete against that.

MS would face the same struggles as the other two. First one to crack it going to win the gen.

The way I see it microsoft at least tries to do something new and it's successful so far. PS4 is basically a high end pc and Chinese won't want to support a Japanese company. Xbox One has a shot in China if it were cheaper. And the Wii U...well it's the Wii U

I think the cheapest/least controversial console will actually win China...

a) Chinese Government likes to censor everything as much as possible
b) Majority of the population is middle-class to poor

So does that mean the wiiU will dominate? Maybe but I think if Nintendo gives china the wii mini for $100 or whatever it is there... gg

Its not doing anything new. Just drop that. They are more likely to side with he japanese than an american company. Even givin thier past. They dont like us any more.  

Sony has a much better chance being the before MS, MS does not do well outside the US, and sony being a hardware company would be an advantage, and of course better price.


China will not be relevant for a long time if ever.

LOL at people arguing china does not like japan giving MS an advantage, that will not apply to products. and most people in China do not think that way. Governments do not mirror all citizens thinking.
