Well seeing how a lot of organizations (TV stuff/gaming ) still haven't fully embraced 1080p yet, I wouldn't say that.

Well of coarse not, I'll give it a year and a half til we start having certain channels that's running in full 4k.

This. As long as 1080p isn't the standard, I doubt we'll see 4k take off in any meaningful way whatsoever. Obviously it'll grow, but I do not expect it to reach any substantial results anytime soon. Maybe in 2018 or so.

20+ years. Buy then all the issues with 4K will sorted out.

As far as TVs are concerned, it's all about price and content.

Many people don't realize just how long the 1080 res adoption rate was; I'm talking into mass households. And, most importantly, until 4k content (cable/satellite/streaming, discs) becomes an industry standard to show the pixel for pixel advantage that 4k has over 1080p, people just aren't going to pay a premium for upscaling.

Once enough content is out there and prices reduce considerably, then we'll start to see 4k TVs move en masse.

Vizio are selling 2014 50" 4K TVs for $999 dollars, that's a 100 dollars more then my current TV, and I just bought not too long ago. Suddenly 4K TVs, doesn't look too bad right now :o

Of coarse, I know 1080p TVs are still being sold in stores, but base on what I seen from this year CES and even last year, is that companies already moved on. Seriously, 4K off the wazoo. Computers, Tablets, Phones, Laptops, and duh TVs. Companies plan to launch there 4K products, pretty soon then expected, starting sometimes next month, base on what I heard. So if anyone in need for a decent, cheap 1080p TV, I say wait til the summer and see what the price look like, you may come across a good 1080p TV for around 900 or 800 bucks. That's how I got my TV.

Now I wonder what will be the first theatical film to be record in full 4k and who's excited for 4K?

Wasn't The Hobbit 2 in 4K? I saw it that way, at least.

I only heard it was film in 1080p, but running on 48FPS

Movies have been shot on 4k cams for a while now. Hobbit is one of them. 35mm film is 4k. That counts too. I don't care about 4K intill it becomes a forced norm. I won't go out of my way to replace or buy them intill 1080 stuff is gone.

These people expect you to buy new TVs every 5 years. That's the lifecycle I use for other disposable electronics such as laptops and mobiles. TVs should last at least 10 years.

720p is enough for a mobile, some apparently need 1080p.
1080p is fine for a laptop, during fall they've already started with QHD+ laptops.
1080p is also fine for small-mid TVs, 4K for big ass ones.

It obviously depends on content, I still consume SD media on my fullHD screens, don't care and it's good enough.

It would be nice if 4K leads to bigger monitor sizes. I hate that they cap the monitor size at 30" and above that is only TVs. That's why I had to buy a TV which also cap their resolution at 1080p. It's just awful that you can't find what you are looking for even in an over saturated market.
