When was the last time you saw a new IP that's a competitive multiplayer focused shooter with this much hype? Over 75 Awards before its even out with literally everyone who's played it saying its defining a new generation of fps multiplayer.

Irrelevant, Hitman absolution was the rave of e3 and won many awards how did that turn out?

It won 14 awards..
over 75 > 14

That many awards based on limited hands-on time with the game. This much hype based on very little. Another game comes to mind that had a ton of hype, was said to change everything about the genre, was going to dethrone the current king and reign supreme for a long time to come, and all of that before any substantial playtime of the game could be talked about without violating an NDA. It was also published by EA. Star Wars: The Old Republic. I'm not even joking. That game was hyped so much by both fans and media personalities. There was so much going for it. Set in a beloved universe. The studio making it was known for its high quality RPGs. Offering a different way to tell a story in an MMO. Its competition was on the decline. It really looked like there was no way the game was not going to end up being a big deal.
It released, became the fastest selling MMO at the time, and then reality kicked everyone in the nuts. The game was good but it was not the new standard. It was nowhere near deserving of the hype. When people finally got to put significant time into the game without being silenced about it the complaints were loud and clear. This was not the second coming of MMO greatness. Hell, the game didn't even feel like it was ready to launch. It was one of the biggest disappointments in a long time. None of the hype and praise surrounding that game mattered once the final product was in consumer hands. So many people thought it was a sure thing. Let's try to learn a lesson from The Old Republic. If there is that much hype surrounding a game that no one has had significant time to play then you should be extremely cautious of the final product because there is a good chance the hype is artificial.
I have the game on order through Origin and I really feel like I'm taking a gamble with $60 because it seems like everytime I pre-order a game I thought was certainly going to be great I got burned. Funny enough, the last two games I pre-ordered were Rage and Killzone: Shadow Fall. Both of them FPS titles.
