Wii was selling 1m games per week in december. not bad for a dead console

Very hard to believe that figure.

You are very wise to be skeptical, because the actual number was about 3 million a week.

To shed some light on this, why not actually look up numbers?  Wii Sports sold about 200K over this holiday with a combination of bundles and stand alone sales.  Smash sold about 100K.  Wii Fit Plus about 50K.  New Super Mario Bros was about 200K.

Of course, you're probably right.  Nobody actually plays Wii.  In fact, noone actually owns a Wii.  It's all a myth perpetrated by VGChartz.

I've alreay done my research, Wii will ship around 10m software this Q, so 11m for Dec alone seems too much for me to believe, like I said.

How high are the profits?

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

And what research would that be?  And you really think that Wii software is overtracked by 10 million?

Looking at Nintendo financials. I don't think it's overtracked overall no.

I suppose it all adds up to profit. Yet...putting the holiday figures aside:

Is it now so cheap to produce the wii that it is selling for a ridiculous profit? Then you ask is it selling enough? Maybe wii owners are collectively buying lots of reduced price Nintendo software over a period of time, in that way the games doesn't chart.

Did the few new games that was brought out on the system over the last year make that much money?

I am sure the damn thing is still bringing in some cash but surely it can't be that much.

Nintendo did not release financials for this quarter.

According to this site, Wii has sold this year 40.6 milion SW units.
Its pretty obvious that many people still play their Wiis and buy games for it. No matter what "skeptics" say. Wii wasnt a fad, it was a big success and its still proving that same.

Newsflash: "Wii U not selling is not important because it doesn't sell enough to make a difference." ???!!?>!?

Holy bullcrap circular logic Batman!

Nintendo has gone from making around $2 billion a year from DS+Wii to making $0 a year from DS+3DS+Wii+Wii U.  The sales of Wii U are very important to fixing that equation.

Nintendo is burning through $1.5+ billion a year running their company and developing their games. The 3DS & Wii are paying all the bills for now. It is very important that the number of Wii U consoles increase at a good pace so that Wii U can also pay the bills as Wii is declining.

If Wii U keeps missing expectations Nintendo will likely need a major downsize to return to stronger profitability.
