Could be! It also doesn't help that FF XIII had a ridiculous story, I think I ended the game without understanding what the hell happened o_O.

No more ridiculous than FFIV where Porom and Palom saved Cecil and his party.

I think objectively, theres no way to say FFXIII is good.

But your personal opinion and your personal tastes may make it enjoyable.

I disagree. Objectively speaking, it actually is a good game. There are no game-breaking glitches or flaws, it has excellent graphics, the soundtrack is well made, the gameplay is solid... Whether people like to hear the soundtrack or have fun with the gameplay is all subjective. So really, when personal tastes and opinions come to the discussion, the objective point of view doesn't really matter.

I guess thats a difference of criteria. For me a bad game is not a buggy game (i can overlook those if the game is enjoyable), but a game that is dead boring.

The gameplay certainly isnt solid though. You just need to use auto-attack through 95% of the game and you traverse corridor after corridor. The story itself is a fragmented mess that struggles to stay coherent. The characters are one-dimensional. Actually, lightning herself is completely void of any personality after 3 games and a spin-off.

So, objectively its not a good game. The gameplay and entertainment value is terrible. Just cause you got shiny graphics and nice music, doesnt mean you have a good game.

Might skip this now.

Two very good points brought up in this thread so far:

- I'm really looking forward to playing Lightning Returns, but if it's reviewing like this I might just wait a month or two until it's in the bargain bins.

- He gave XIII-2 a 5/10. I really, really loved XIII-2. Therefore I don't much care for this review.

Thats why I think the text is so much more important than the score at the end. This seems to be a reviewer who uses the full 0- 10 scale, with 5 beeing average.

I have liked a lot of "average" (or games that other people think are average) games over the course of the years.

Btw. didn´t FF XIII-2 drop to 15 pounds in just one or two weeks in the UK ? I remember that someone talked about the price dropping even faster in Britain than in america.

5 is not average, the arithmetical average of 10 is 5.5, therefore when he scored XII-2 a 5 he was already scoring it bellow average, he said it was a step up form XIII so I bet hed have scored XIII a 4 or something like that, wich is stupid again 4 is the metascore for Terminator Salvation a retail released game that is not even realy a game, it takes you 2 hours to beat the thing in its enterety. In actual review terms a 4 or a 5 dont realy difer from another both are uter crap, not average, crap the worst of the worst games get 4s, only the completly utter rubish ones might get 3s. Nobody trying to decide if theyre going to buy something or not is going to spend 1 cent on a game that was reviewed a 4 or a 5 most likelly wont on a 6 either.

Im sure there are games much worse out there with much higher review scores than 4, again this game might not be nearly as good as FF fans would want it to be, still it should be given fair scores and not have points knocked off it cause its FF and doesnt live to whichever FF standard the reviewer may have. Ppl did that way too much with XIII-2 already.

And the senseless FFXIII hate runs so deep that we have a grand total of 1 review from a dude that had already reviewed the other XIII games and given them crappy scores and everybody is here prazing how nice it is that this game sucks (wich is realy mindbogling, why would anyone wish for something to fail just cause they dont like it).

Does a single person on earth care about Final Fantasy any more? Since FFXIII, there's just no hope for the series.

I thinking you're misusing the scale. 5 is mediorce. A game that isn't good but not bad. I would hope that the competence of the industry would lead to more good games than bad games. So, you'll never an average of 5, because life doesn't work on a bell curve.

I thought X-III 2 was a fine game that must be enjoyable for every JRPG fan. XIII was really a game I don't understand somebody can call amazing, even if it was not FF I would still call FFXIII a bad game. FFXIII-3 I am really not interested in.

Today we learnt that objectively opinions=facts...

And some games can be evaluated in a special scale... this must be a 4 in a 0 to 5... or comparing to other FFs.

The same happened to GT.

Saying it's boring is subjective. I was never bored with my 60+ hours of gameplay (ok, that's not true. Nautillus can go fuck itself).

And your description of the gameplay applies for virtually any jrpg. You just go around, and use the Attack command 95% of the game. So I say the gameplay (at least when it comes to the battle system) is actually solid, objectively. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be people who enjoy it, I think.

And the story... well, I enjoyed but I gotta say, I feel people give way too much credit to the importance of the plot in rpgs. If the story is bad, I really don't care, unless it's SO bad it offends me. But I digress.

My point exactly, ppl scroed XIII-2 and probably are going to score this one based on how they tought a FF game should be and the end scores where completly unfair most of the times.
